Roenis Elias (FD: $6700, DK: $6800)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.59 — Strikeout Rate: 23.1% — Walk Rate: 11.5% — Ground Ball Rate: 46.7%
2014: xFIP: 3.95 — Strikeout Rate: 20.6% — Walk Rate: 9.2% — Ground Ball Rate: 45.4%
Houston Astros vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.309 (Rank: 19)
Strikeout Rate: 24.0% (Rank: 22)
Analysis: Elias is making his second start of the season, after giving up two runs and striking out six batters in 5.2 innings of work against the Twins. Elias is a high-strikeout pitcher, but he can be erratic at times, as he walked 9.2% of the batters that he faced in 2014. Elias is an intriguing tournament play tonight against the Astros, who strike out at the ninth-highest rate of any team against left-handed pitching this season. The Astros can also put up runs quickly though, which is why Elias is a risky cash game option.
Pitcher Rating:56.2
Samuel Deduno (FD: $4600, DK: $4000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.14 — Strikeout Rate: 18.4% — Walk Rate: 7.9% — Ground Ball Rate: 48.0%
2014: xFIP: 4.12 — Strikeout Rate: 18.7% — Walk Rate: 10.4% — Ground Ball Rate: 53.5%
Seattle Mariners vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.291 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 20.6% (Rank: 16)
Analysis: Deduno is making his first start of the season, after making five appearances out of the bullpen. He only threw 38 pitches in his last outing, so he will likely be on a pitch count for tonight’s game against the Mariners. He draws a mediocre matchup against the Mariners in the hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.357 — ISO: 0.186 — OBP: 0.359
Analysis: Smith is everyone’s favorite value play when the Mariners are facing a right-handed pitcher. He has been batting leadoff against righties and he has performed well in that role, posting a .370 wOBA and a .231 ISO against right-handed pitching this season. He is close to the bare-minimum on FanDuel and he draws a nice matchup against Samuel Deduno, who gave up a .335 wOBA to batters from the left side of the plate last season.

Analysis: Even though Altuve doesn’t hit many home runs, he’s a player that I don’t mind paying up for in the right matchup. He has always hit left-handed pitching well and this season is no different. He currently has a .563 wOBA and a .182 ISO against southpaws. He is a threat to steal every time he reaches base and he is easily the top fantasy option at second base tonight.

A.J. Burnett (FD: $6900, DK: $8100)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 3.55 — Strikeout Rate: 19.8% — Walk Rate: 6.9% — Ground Ball Rate: 55.6%
2014: xFIP: 3.95 — Strikeout Rate: 20.3% — Walk Rate: 10.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 50.9%
St. Louis Cardinals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 8)
Strikeout Rate: 17.0% (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Burnett has pitched pretty well this season with a 3.55 xFIP and a strikeout rate of 19.8%. He has cut down on his walks this year, but his command is still a concern, especially on the road. He draws one of the toughest matchups on the board, as he has to face a red-hot Cardinals’ offense that has moved up to eighth in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Burnett is overpriced for his matchup and can be avoided in all league formats.
Pitcher Rating:54.2
Lance Lynn (FD: $8100, DK: $8300)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 3.30 — Strikeout Rate: 27.1% — Walk Rate: 7.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 35.0%
2014: xFIP: 3.81 — Strikeout Rate: 20.9% — Walk Rate: 8.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 44.3%
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.281 (Rank: 26)
Strikeout Rate: 22.3% (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Dollar for dollar, Lynn is one of the top pitching options on the mound tonight. He boasts an elite strikeout rate and he draws a favorable matchup against the Pirates, whose offense has been ice cold to start the season. The Pirates are currently ranked 26th in wOBA against right-handed pitching, striking out at the eighth-highest rate of any team. Lynn is a sizable favorite (-135) and he is sitting at a very playable price point on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Analysis: Adams continues to mash right-handed pitching and he continues to be underpriced on FanDuel. On the season, he has a .368 wOBA and a .182 ISO against righties and he has recorded ten hits in his last five games. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against A.J. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.376 (Rank: 1)
Strikeout Rate: 18.0% (Rank: 9)
Analysis: De La Rosa has pitched well this season with a 3.22 xFIP and an impressive strikeout rate of 23.6%. He’s worth monitoring moving forward, but unfortunately he draws one of the toughest matchups on the schedule tonight. The Dodgers are ranked first in wOBA against right-handed pitching. De La Rosa is a sizable underdog in a bad matchup.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.307 (Rank: 13)
Strikeout Rate: 19.3% (Rank: 13)
Analysis: With Brandon McCarthy out, the Dodgers have called up Carlos Frias to make the start tonight against the Diamondbacks. He has pitched pretty well in his time in the majors, but he’s still a very risky fantasy option in daily leagues. The Diamondbacks are a very capable offense. Frias is cheap and could possibly be in line for a win tonight, but he’s nothing more than a GPP flier against the Diamondbacks.

Analysis: Peralta is another outfielder that always offers good value on FanDuel when the Diamondbacks are facing a right-handed pitcher. Analysis: Gonzalez is one of the top plays at first base tonight. He has crushed right-handed pitching this season to the tune of a .541 wOBA and a .463 ISO. He has been good at home and on the road and he draws a favorably matchup against Rubby De La Rosa, who gave up a .364 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season. San Diego Padres vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.301 (Rank: 18)
Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Butler pitches for the Rockies. I could basically end my analysis there, as they have arguably the worst starting rotation in baseball. Butler has not pitched well this season with a 5.18 xFIP and a walk rate that matches his strikeout rate. Even in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park, there is little fantasy appeal here.
Pitcher Rating:50.3
Ian Kennedy (FD: $7300, DK: $8200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.98 — Strikeout Rate: 12.5% — Walk Rate: 9.4% — Ground Ball Rate: 47.8%
2014: xFIP: 3.44 — Strikeout Rate: 24.5% — Walk Rate: 8.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 39.7%
Colorado Rockies vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 5)
Strikeout Rate: 17.7% (Rank: 7)
Analysis: Kennedy is my favorite tournament play tonight. He has struggled out of the gates this season, posting a 4.98 xFIP with a low strikeout rate of 12.5%. However, he is coming off of an impressive 2014 campaign where he posted a 3.44 xFIP and a strikeout rate of 24.5%. The Rockies aren’t the same offense away from Coors Field and Kennedy sees a ballpark boost pitching in Petco Park. His price is also depressed, making him a high-risk, high-reward play tonight in tournaments.

Analysis: Heston is an intriguing play tonight against the Angels. He’s not a household name (even in DFS circles), but he’s pitched pretty well so far this season with a 3.37 xFIP and a strikeout rate of 18.7%. He is a small favorite tonight against the Angels in a game that features a low total of 7.0 runs. He also draws a favorable matchup, as the Angels are currently ranked 28th in wOBA against right-handed pitching. Heston is in play as a tournament starter or as a cheap SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.382 — ISO: 0.214 — OBP: 0.357
Analysis: Posey’s numbers against left-handed pitching are down this season, but he has been a notorious lefty killer throughout his career. He has an attractive price point on both FanDuel and DraftKings and he should be considered the top play at catcher tonight. He draws a terrific matchup against C.J. Wilson, who gave up a .345 wOBA to batters from the right side of the plate last season.
