Max Scherzer (FD: $10500, DK: $12000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 3.36 — Strikeout Rate: 25.7% — Walk Rate: 3.5% — Ground Ball Rate: 37.2%
2014: xFIP: 3.12 — Strikeout Rate: 27.9% — Walk Rate: 7.0% — Ground Ball Rate: 36.7%
New York Mets vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.292 (Rank: 22)
Strikeout Rate: 17.7% (Rank: 7)
Analysis: After Strasburg vs. deGrom last night, we get an encore performance with Scherzer vs. Harvey. In fact, last night’s act was just a warm-up for tonight’s main event. Scherzer has been terrific to start the season, posting a 3.36 xFIP with a strikeout rate of 25.7%. He has cut down on his walks and he should benefit from pitching in Citi Field, as he is a fly-ball pitcher. Scherzer draws a favorable matchup against the Mets, who are ranked 22nd in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:93.1
Matt Harvey (FD: $10300, DK: $11200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 2.67 — Strikeout Rate: 29.0% — Walk Rate: 2.8% — Ground Ball Rate: 41.8%
Washington Nationals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.291 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 22.7% (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Harvey has yet to have that dominant performance that we saw out of him so many times in 2013, but it’s coming. He currently owns an xFIP of 2.67 with an elite strikeout rate of 29.0%. He has shown great command in his first few starts, walking only 2.8% of the batters that he has faced. He draws a favorable matchup against the Nationals, who are ranked 23rd in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. The dark knight is in play in all league formats tonight and I have him ranked slightly ahead of Max Scherzer in this one.

Anthony DeSclafani (FD: $7700, DK: $7700)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.01 — Strikeout Rate: 21.2% — Walk Rate: 6.1% — Ground Ball Rate: 42.6%
2014: xFIP: 3.80 — Strikeout Rate: 17.8% — Walk Rate: 3.4% — Ground Ball Rate: 35.5%
Atlanta Braves vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 16.9% (Rank: 3)
Analysis: After three quality outings to start the season, DeSclafani struggled in his last start against the Cubs, giving up five runs in only five innings of work. DeSclafani has a decent strikeout rate, but an average xFIP and ground ball rate. He draws a tough matchup tonight against the Braves, who have been surprisingly good offensively this season. They are currently ranked tenth in wOBA against right-handed pitching, striking out at the third-lowest rate of any team. There are better pitching options at his price point tonight.
Pitcher Rating:62.4
Mike Foltynewicz (FD: N/A, DK: $5900)
Pitching Stats:
2014: xFIP: 4.88 — Strikeout Rate: 16.7% — Walk Rate: 8.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 28.6%
Cincinnati Reds vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.302 (Rank: 17)
Strikeout Rate: 19.7% (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Foltynewicz will be making his first career major-league start tonight. He made 16 appearances out of the bullpen for the Astros last season, posting a 4.88 xFIP with a strikeout rate of 16.7%. He has looked sharp in his first four starts in the minors this season, posting a 2.51 FIP with a K/9 of 12.5. I typically like to see results from young pitchers before targeting them in cash games and I’ll stick to my guns with that tonight. There is too much uncertainty surrounding Foltynewicz, which makes him an easy pitcher for me to avoid tonight.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.342 — ISO: 0.093 — OBP: 0.403
Analysis: Votto is off to a hot start this season, batting 26-for-82 with 12 extra-base hits and 17 RBIs. He currently has a .483 wOBA and a .397 ISO against right-handed pitching. He’s a strong play tonight against Mike Foltynewicz, who will likely have show some nerves in his first major-league start.

Analysis: Pierzynski was out of the lineup yesterday, but he should be back in the clean-up spot tonight against Anthony DeSclafani. Pierzynski has been one of the best-hitting catchers in baseball this season, especially against right-handed pitching (.482 wOBA and a .293 ISO). He’s in a great spot tonight against DeSclafani, who gave up a .391 wOBA to batters from the left side of the plate last season.

Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 3.25 — Strikeout Rate: 28.3% — Walk Rate: 8.5% — Ground Ball Rate: 48.4%
2014: xFIP: 3.59 — Strikeout Rate: 21.1% — Walk Rate: 6.4% — Ground Ball Rate: 43.8%
Texas Rangers vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.312 (Rank: 17)
Strikeout Rate: 19.7% (Rank: 14)
Analysis: Kazmir has been sharp in his first four starts of the season, posting a 3.25 xFIP with a strikeout rate of 28.3%. He can give up a few walks every now and then, but his high strikeout potential more than offsets that. Kazmir draws a mediocre matchup against the Rangers, who are ranked 17th in wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Kazmir may be a little overpriced on FanDuel, but he makes a terrific SP2 on DraftKings at a price of only $7,400.
Pitcher Rating:72.7
Colby Lewis (FD: $6500, DK: $6300)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.79 — Strikeout Rate: 15.6% — Walk Rate: 6.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 32.0%
2014: xFIP: 4.36 — Strikeout Rate: 17.5% — Walk Rate: 6.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 33.0%
Oakland Athletics vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.335 (Rank: 5)
Strikeout Rate: 17.1% (Rank: 5)
Analysis: Lewis is not a recommended play. Not tonight and likely not at any other point during the season. He has a below average xFIP (4.79) and a mediocre strikeout rate (15.6%). He draws a tough matchup against the A’s, who are ranked 5th in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. There is more risk than potential reward with Lewis and he can be avoided in all league formats.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.367 — ISO: 0.239 — OBP: 0.330
Analysis: Reddick is a very streaky hitter and tonight is a great time to target him while he is in the midst of a hot streak. He has 13 hits over his last eight games and he draws a tremendous matchup against Colby Lewis, who gave up a .373 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season. Reddick has great power against right-handed pitching and his price is at a very playable level on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Analysis: Beltre is off to a slow start this season, but he has been the victim of some bad luck. His BABIP of .203 is lower than it has been in any other season throughout his career. That number will likely finish around .300 at the end of the season. It’s only a matter of time before the hits start coming. He may not have the best matchup on the board, but he’s in play on FanDuel at a discounted price of only $2,900.

Jose Quintana (FD: $7600, DK: $7200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 4.38 — Strikeout Rate: 16.5% — Walk Rate: 5.2% — Ground Ball Rate: 35.1%
2014: xFIP: 3.37 — Strikeout Rate: 21.5% — Walk Rate: 6.3% — Ground Ball Rate: 44.7%
Minnesota Twins vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.282 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Quintana’s numbers are all trending in the wrong direction. His xFIP is up, while his strikeout rate and ground ball rate are both down from last season. He was one of the better sleeper picks every time he took the mound last season. Maybe a matchup against the Twins is just what he needs to get going this year. The Twins are currently ranked 23rd in wOBA against left-handed pitching. Quintana is still too risky to use in cash games, but he makes sense as a contrarian play for tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:59.7
Kyle Gibson (FD: $6200, DK: $5300)
Pitching Stats:
2015: xFIP: 5.70 — Strikeout Rate: 5.9% — Walk Rate: 11.8% — Ground Ball Rate: 48.1%
2014: xFIP: 3.99 — Strikeout Rate: 14.1% — Walk Rate: 7.5% — Ground Ball Rate: 54.4%
Chicago White Sox vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 22.3% (Rank: 23)
Analysis: Gibson is off to a shaky start here in 2015. He currently owns a 5.70 xFIP with a walk rate that is almost twice as high as his strikeout rate. Even if he was replicating his numbers from last season (which he’s not), he wouldn’t be a great fantasy option. He doesn’t have a high enough strikeout potential to offset his other flaws. He can safely be avoided tonight against the White Sox.

Analysis: Cabrera is a great example of why every player is price-sensitive. He draws a favorable matchup against Kyle Gibson and he has good splits against right-handed pitching. However, his price difference on FanDuel ($2,500) and DraftKings ($4,300) is so large that he becomes an elite play on one site and a borderline secondary play on the other.

wOBA: 0.352 (Rank: 5)
Strikeout Rate: 13.6% (Rank: 1)
Analysis: There isn’t a whole lot to talk about with Lobstein tonight. He is a below-average pitcher facing an elite offense of the Royals. Lobstein has a below average xFIP, strikeout rate, and walk rate this season. He can safely be avoided in all league formats, as he draws one of the lowest pitcher ratings on the board.

Analysis: Chris Young is an extreme fly-ball pitcher, which could mean bombs away for the Tigers tonight. Martinez gets the nod as the elite play, but there are quite a few Tigers in play tonight. Martinez has struggled against right-handed pitching this season, but he should be able to turn things around tonight against Chris Young, who gave up a .355 wOBA to batters from the left-side of the plate last season.

Analysis: There must be an error in DraftKings’ pricing model, as Cain should not be listed at $3,900 against a left-handed pitcher. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, just pointing out the mispricing. Cain has a .472 wOBA and a .229 ISO against southpaws this season.
