Pitcher Grind Down
Gerrit Cole (FD: $10100, DK: $9900)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 64 — SIERA: 2.67 — K Rate: 27.5% — K/9: 9.84 — BB Rate: 5.5% — FB Rate: 24.2% — HR/FB: 10.0%
2014: IP: 138 — SIERA: 3.23 — K Rate: 24.2% — K/9: 9.00 — BB Rate: 7.0% — FB Rate: 31.8% — HR/FB: 9.4%
San Francisco Giants vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.323 (Rank: 6) — Strikeout Rate: 17.5% (Rank: 5) — wRC+: 110 (Rank: 2)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.71 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Cole is another ace to take the mound tonight in a less than ideal situation. He has been terrific this season with a 2.67 SIERA and a K/9 of 9.8. He draws a tough matchup against the Giants though. San Francisco is currently ranked 6th or better in wOBA, strikeout rate, and wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season. Cole may be a little overpriced for his matchup, which is why he’s a better tournament play than a cash game play.
Pitcher Rating:81.0
Ryan Vogelsong (FD: $6600, DK: $6100)
Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 51 — SIERA: 4.51 — K Rate: 17.2% — K/9: 6.71 — BB Rate: 9.1% — FB Rate: 39.1% — HR/FB: 14.3%
2014: IP: 184 — SIERA: 3.98 — K Rate: 19.4% — K/9: 7.36 — BB Rate: 7.4% — FB Rate: 37.3% — HR/FB: 8.8%
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.308 (Rank: 16) — Strikeout Rate: 19.8% (Rank: 13) — wRC+: 95 (Rank: 13)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.81 (Rank: 12)
Analysis: Vogelsong is often written off of as a terrible play before even looking at his numbers. He has actually coming off of a very solid month of May, where he posted a 1.15 ERA in five starts. I’m not buying in just yet though, he averaged less than six strikeouts per nine innings during that stretch and his BABIP was at an unsustainably low level (.217). He typically pitches better at home, but he’s not on my radar tonight against the surging Pirates’ offense.
Pitcher Rating:55.6

Pittsburgh
Neil Walker (FD: $2800, DK: $3900)
Position Eligibility: FD: 2B — DK: 2B
2015 vs. RH Pitching: PA: 196 — wOBA: 0.332 — ISO: 0.141 — wRC+: 112
2014 vs. RH Pitching: PA: 571 — wOBA: 0.364 — ISO: 0.222 — wRC+: 135
Analysis: Walker is the top value play at second base tonight. He is a switch-hitter that hits well from both sides of the plate. He draws a favorable matchup against Ryan Vogelsong, who has given up a .365 wOBA to left-handed hitters.
