Travis Wood (FD: $7600, DK: $7200)

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.08 — K Rate: 27.7% — K/9: 9.89 — BB Rate: 6.4% — GB Rate: 30.6%
2014: SIERA: 4.41 — K Rate: 18.7% — K/9: 7.57 — BB Rate: 9.7% — GB Rate: 34.4%

St. Louis Cardinals vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.274 (Rank: 26)
Strikeout Rate: 24.2% (Rank: 25)

Analysis: Wood’s 2014 season was a great example of Murphy’s law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. He finished the season with an ERA over 5.00 and a BABIP of .320. He is off to a much better start here in 2015, posting a 3.08 SIERA with a K/9 of 9.9. He has always been a high-strikeout pitcher, but he has struggled with home runs, as he produces a very low ground-ball rate. He should have success against the left-handed hitters in the Cardinals’ lineup tonight, but he’s still a sizable underdog and a risky fantasy option.

Pitcher Rating:60.2

Carlos Martinez (FD: $8400, DK: $7600)

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.61 — K Rate: 23.5% — K/9: 8.31 — BB Rate: 9.8% — GB Rate: 52.2%
2014: SIERA: 3.45 — K Rate: 21.8% — K/9: 8.46 — BB Rate: 9.3% — GB Rate: 51.2%

Chicago Cubs vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.306 (Rank: 13)
Strikeout Rate: 24.7% (Rank: 30)

Analysis: Clayton Kershaw is the preferred fantasy option on single pitcher sites, but Martinez offers great value tonight as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites. He has a reasonable price tag and he draws a strikeout-friendly matchup against the Cubs, who have struck out at the highest rate of any team against right-handed pitching this season. Martinez meanwhile, is off to a quick start in 2015 with a 3.61 SIERA and a K/9 of 8.3. He’s a sizable favorite and he has a good chance to pick up a win against the Cubs.

All of the right-handed bats from the Cardinals are in play tonight. Holliday has hit southpaws well this season, posting a .463 wOBA with an incredible OBP of .636.

Jesse Hahn (FD: $7200, DK: $6000)

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.95 — K Rate: 12.6% — K/9: 4.5 — BB Rate: 4.6% — GB Rate: 53.6%
2014: SIERA: 3.73 — K Rate: 22.9% — K/9: 8.59 — BB Rate: 10.5% — GB Rate: 50.3%

Minnesota Twins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.282 (Rank: 26)
Strikeout Rate: 22.4% (Rank: 26)

Analysis: Hahn’s numbers are down this season, which was expected after the move to the American League. He no longer gets to face National League lineups and he no longer gets to pitch in Petco Park. Hahn currently has a 3.95 SIERA with a low K/9 of 4.5. He does produce a high-ground ball rate and he does draw a favorable matchup against the Twins, but he’s not a pitcher that is my radar tonight. There is more downside than upside with Hahn.

Pitcher Rating:53.3

Phil Hughes (FD: $7400, DK: $8100)

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.56 — K Rate: 19.7% — K/9: 7.39 — BB Rate: 1.5% — GB Rate: 31.1%

Oakland Athletics vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.336 (Rank: 4)
Strikeout Rate: 17.0% (Rank: 4)

Analysis: I keep waiting for a perfect opportunity to target Hughes, but it just hasn’t come yet. He has pitched well this season with a 3.56 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.4. My favorite statistic with Hughes is the fact that he has walked less than two percent of the batters that he has faced since the start of the 2014 season. The big knock on him tonight is his matchup against the A’s. Oakland is ranked fourth in wOBA against right-handed pitching and they strike out at a very low clip.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.367 — ISO: 0.239 — OBP: 0.330

Analysis: It’s difficult to separate a hot-streak from luck in daily fantasy baseball, but it’s safe to say that Reddick is officially in the midst of a hot-streak. He has 14 hits (six extra-base hits), 15 RBIs, and ten runs in his last nine games. He currently owns a .480 wOBA and a .259 ISO against right-handed pitching. Phil Hughes is a reverse splits pitcher, but he is also a fly-ball pitcher.

Analysis: Plouffe is typically known as a player that we use strictly against left-handed pitchers, but his numbers against righties have been good this season. He has a .389 wOBA and a .229 ISO against right-handed pitching this year. He draws a decent matchup against Jesse Hahn and he’s one of the cheapest third-base options tonight on FanDuel.

wOBA: 0.325 (Rank: 12)
Strikeout Rate: 23.7% (Rank: 24)

Analysis: Outside of the two pitchers in Coors Field, Detwiler is my least favorite pitcher tonight. He has not pitched well this season with a 5.75 SIERA and a low K/9 of 5.1. He draws an extremely tough matchup against the Astros, who hit left-handed pitching well and who hit a lot of home runs.

Texas Rangers vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.333 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 19.8% (Rank: 14)

Analysis: Keuchel may not have the highest strikeout rate in baseball, but he does have the highest ground-ball rate of any qualified starter. He produced a 64% ground ball rate in 2014 and he’s back at it again in 2015 with a 65% ground ball rate. Pitchers with high ground ball rates are able to limit the extra-base hits against them. Keuchel is one of the biggest favorites on the board tonight. The strikeout potential is somewhat limited, but he should pitch deep into this game and hopefully he will be in line for the win.

Analysis: The baseball must look like a beach ball for Gattis right now. He has hit not one, not two, not three, but four home runs in his last three games. He has always hit left-handed pitching well and he draws a terrific matchup against Ross Detwiler, who gave up a .368 wOBA to right-handed hitters last season. Analysis: Goldschmidt is the top play at any position tonight, but you are going to have to pay a pretty penny for him. If you roster both Goldschmidt and Clayton Kershaw, you will only have $2,514 to spend on each of the other positions tonight on FanDuel. Basically, you are going to have to choose between one or the other. Goldschmidt has crushed left-handed pitching this season with a .569 wOBA and a .500 ISO. Analysis: King Felix is looking to bounce back, after a subpar performance against the Rangers. He’s still been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season though, posting a 2.32 SIERA with a K/9 of 9.4. He draws a favorable matchup against the Angels tonight, who are ranked 28th in wOBA against right-handed pitching. On any night, Hernandez would be the top pitching option on the board, but unfortunately he’s the second-best option with Clayton Kershaw on the mound. I prefer Kershaw over Hernandez, but he could be an intriguing tournament play, as his ownership level will be down.

2015: SIERA: 4.20 — K Rate: 18.7% — K/9: 7.29 — BB Rate: 5.5% — GB Rate: 26.9%
2014: SIERA: 3.19 — K Rate: 22.8% — K/9: 8.21 — BB Rate: 4.4% — GB Rate: 41.2%

Seattle Mariners vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.296 (Rank: 21)
Strikeout Rate: 20.4% (Rank: 16)

Analysis: Shoemaker has gotten off to a slow start this season, with a 4.20 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.3. His walks are up, while his strikeout rate and ground-ball rate are both down from where they were last season. He’s a pitcher that is not on my radar tonight, as he is a sizable underdog at home against a very capable Mariners’ offense.

Seattle

Robinson Cano (FD: $3600, DK: $4100)

Position Eligibility: FD: 2B — DK: 2B
2015 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.353 — ISO: 0.130 — OBP: 0.365
2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.382 — ISO: 0.166 — OBP: 0.398

Analysis: Cano doesn’t have the high-ceiling that he once did (thanks to the short-porch in right in Yankee Stadium), but he’s still a very productive fantasy player. All baseball players have a floor of zero, but Cano is one of the few players that we can usually count on for some type of production.
