Pitcher Grind Down
Stephen Strasburg (FD: $9100, DK: $9200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.69 — K Rate: 21.3% — K/9: 8.91 — BB Rate: 6.7% — GB Rate: 42.7%
2014: SIERA: 2.64 — K Rate: 27.9% — K/9: 10.13 — BB Rate: 5.0% — GB Rate: 45.9%
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.319 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 19.6% (Rank: 13)
Analysis: Strasburg is scheduled to start tonight, after injuring his shoulder against the Marlins last week. It would be very Strasburg-like to come out and throw a gem on a night when no one will be targeting him. However, given his shoulder injury and his ability to break the hearts of us DFS players, he is not a recommended cash game option tonight against the Diamondbacks. Feel free to use him in tournaments, but I’m drawing the line there.
Pitcher Rating:80.1
Rubby De La Rosa (FD: $6700, DK: $6700)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.35 — K Rate: 24.8% — K/9: 9.24 — BB Rate: 6.5% — GB Rate: 43.3%
2014: SIERA: 4.21 — K Rate: 16.8% — K/9: 6.55 — BB Rate: 7.9% — GB Rate: 45.7%
Washington Nationals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 15)
Strikeout Rate: 21.6% (Rank: 24)
Analysis: If you hide the name and just look at his stats, you would think De La Rosa was an ace this season. He has a 3.35 SIERA with an impressive K/9 of 9.2. I’m still not buying into De La Rosa in the long-term though, as this year’s sample size is still small. I will be avoiding him tonight against a Nationals’ offense that just scored 11 runs against the Diamondbacks last night.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.338 — ISO: 0.144 — OBP: 0.348
Analysis: Harper didn’t hit any more home runs, but he racked up a hit, a run, an RBI, and a walk in last night’s win. He now has 11 hits, 14 RBIs, and 9 runs in his last six games. He draws a favorable matchup against Rubby De La Rosa, who has given up a .368 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of last season.

Justin Masterson (FD: $6700, DK: $6000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.87 — K Rate: 15.2% — K/9: 6.27 — BB Rate: 11.9% — GB Rate: 51.5%
2014: SIERA: 4.03 — K Rate: 19.6% — K/9: 8.11 — BB Rate: 11.7% — GB Rate: 58.2%
Oakland Athletics vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.330 (Rank: 6)
Strikeout Rate: 16.9% (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Masterson is the exact opposite of what I look for in a pitcher to use in cash games. He is inconsistent, he struggles with his command, and his strikeouts are trending in the wrong direction. He also draws a difficult matchup against the A’s, who are ranked sixth in wOBA (.330) and sixth in strikeout rate (16.9%) against right-handed pitching this season. The A’s will make Masterson work for outs, as they are very tough all the way through their lineup.
Pitcher Rating:47.1
Drew Pomeranz (FD: $6100, DK: $5500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.18 — K Rate: 19.7% — K/9: 7.67 — BB Rate: 8.0% — GB Rate: 35.4%
2014: SIERA: 3.62 — K Rate: 23.0% — K/9: 8.35 — BB Rate: 9.4% — GB Rate: 45.7%
Boston Red Sox vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 21.7% (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Pomeranz is very cheap tonight on both FanDuel and DraftKings. If he were priced around $7,000, he would be an easy pitcher to avoid. He has only thrown 100+ pitches one time this season and he has allowed three or more earned runs in each of his last five starts. He does draw a favorable matchup against the Red Sox though and he could be a cheap source for a win, as he should see plenty of run support with Justin Masterson on the mound.
Pitcher Rating:60.0

Boston
Dustin Pedroia (FD: $2900, DK: $3800)
Position Eligibility: FD: 2B — DK: 2B
2015 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.396 — ISO: 0.318 — OBP: 0.370
2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.322 — ISO: 0.151 — OBP: 0.325
Analysis: Pedroia has hit left-handed pitching well this season, posting a .396 wOBA and a .318 ISO. Drew Pomeranz has been tough on right-handed hitters, but Pedroia still have a favorable wOBA matchup. He has a good track record against southpaws and the Red Sox are projected to score right around 4.0 runs tonight.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.367 — ISO: 0.239 — OBP: 0.330
Analysis: Reddick has been terrific this season, posting a .447 wOBA and a .278 ISO against right-handed pitching. He had another productive outing last night, reaching base safely four times. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against Justin Masterson, who has given up a .389 wOBA to left-handed hitters since the start of 2014.

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.73 — K Rate: 13.1% — K/9: 5.45 — BB Rate: 7.2% — GB Rate: 43.2%
2014: SIERA: 4.45 — K Rate: 14.0% — K/9: 5.47 — BB Rate: 6.6% — GB Rate: 44.6%
LA Angels of Anaheim vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.270 (Rank: 29)
Strikeout Rate: 20.2% (Rank: 18)
Analysis: While Kendrick sees a small boost with this game being played away from Coors Field, that’s about all he has in his favor tonight against the Angels. Kendrick has a high SIERA and a low K/9. That’s not a great combination in daily fantasy baseball. Look for the Angels’ offense to finally get on track tonight against the Rockies.
Pitcher Rating:27.0
C.J. Wilson (FD: $8000, DK: $7500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.25 — K Rate: 16.7% — K/9: 6.08 — BB Rate: 6.2% — GB Rate: 43.9%
2014: SIERA: 4.23 — K Rate: 19.8% — K/9: 7.74 — BB Rate: 11.2% — GB Rate: 47.8%
Colorado Rockies vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.306 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 23.5% (Rank: 25)
Analysis: My pitcher rating system has Wilson rated a little higher than I would have rated him personally, but he’s one of the largest favorites on the board tonight. He has been an average pitcher at best this season, posting a 4.25 SIERA with a K/9 of 6.1. The good news is that he gets to face a Rockies’ offense that is ranked 20th in wOBA and 25th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Wilson has always been dominant against left-handed hitters, which should help his cause tonight against the Rockies.

Position Eligibility: FD: SS — DK: SS

2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.556 — ISO: 0.436 — OBP: 0.515
Analysis: Tulowitzki is one of the few right-handed hitters in the Rockies’ lineup. While some of his stats are skewed by Coors Field, he’s still one of the best hitters in baseball, especially against left-handed pitching. He has a .571 wOBA against southpaws this season. He draws a favorable matchup against C.J. Wilson, who has given up a .329 wOBA to right-handed hitters since the start of 2014.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.404 — ISO: 0.283 — OBP: 0.374
Analysis: Trout is one of the top plays at any position tonight. Kyle Kendrick gives up a higher wOBA to left-handed hitters, but he isn’t great against right-handed hitters either (giving up a .337 wOBA to righties since the start of 2014). Trout has good speed, great power, and he should have a few opportunities to drive in runs tonight.

Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.91 — K Rate: 18.3% — K/9: 6.86 — BB Rate: 6.1% — GB Rate: 46.6%
2014: SIERA: 3.47 — K Rate: 24.5% — K/9: 9.27 — BB Rate: 8.3% — GB Rate: 39.7%
Seattle Mariners vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.298 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 20.8% (Rank: 21)
Analysis: Kennedy is coming off of his best start of the season, striking out five batters in seven innings of work against the Giants. He heads to Seattle to take on a struggling Mariners’ offense tonight. The M’s are currently ranked 23rd in wOBA and 21st in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. His price is a little higher than I’d like to pay for him, but he could be a sneaky pitcher to target in tournaments.
Pitcher Rating:65.5
James Paxton (FD: $6800, DK: $7200)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.88 — K Rate: 20.1% — K/9: 8.02 — BB Rate: 7.4% — GB Rate: 48.6%
2014: SIERA: 3.80 — K Rate: 19.5% — K/9: 7.18 — BB Rate: 9.6% — GB Rate: 54.8%
San Diego Padres vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.316 (Rank: 15)
Strikeout Rate: 21.1% (Rank: 16)
Analysis: Paxton has pitched well this season, posting a 3.88 SIERA with a K/9 of 8.0. He should fly under the radar tonight against the Padres, who have quite a few bats that hit left-handed pitching well. Paxton is not my favorite cash game play, but he offers good upside at his price point. The Padres are ranked right around the league average in wOBA and strikeout rate against southpaws this season.

2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.379 — ISO: 0.159 — OBP: 0.393
Analysis: Norris should be at the top of your list of catchers tonight. He has absolutely crushed left-handed pitching this season to the tune of a .559 wOBA and a .240 ISO. Safeco Field isn’t the best ballpark for right-handed hitters, but he does draw a decent matchup against James Paxton, who gives up a much higher wOBA to right-handed hitters than he does to left-handed hitters.

Analysis: Cano seems to have had his power zapped from his bat when he left New York, but he’s still a very productive baseball player. Only instead of hitting home runs, he is hitting a lot of singles. He has a .346 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and his price is affordable on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Miami Marlins vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.301 (Rank: 22)
Strikeout Rate: 22.0% (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Bolsinger has pitched well in his few starts in the majors over the last two seasons. He has a 3.54 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.9 this season. He also has one of the cheapest price tags on the board, as he is only $4,700 on FanDuel and $6,100 on DraftKings. He draws a decent matchup against the Marlins, who are ranked 22nd in wOBA against right-handed pitching. He also has a decent chance to pick up the win. Analysis: Gonzalez is expensive, but I don’t mind paying a premium for players that I know that I can count on. Gonzalez rarely has those games where he goes 0/4, as he is one of the most consistent fantasy options at any position. He has a .512 wOBA and a .374 ISO against right-handed pitching this season and he draws a favorable matchup against fly-ball pitcher Dan Haren.
