Miguel Gonzalez (FD: $7400, DK: $6400)

Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 62 — SIERA: 4.17 — K Rate: 19.5% — K/9: 7.26 — BB Rate: 8.6% — FB Rate: 33.7% — HR/FB: 13.3%
2014: IP: 159 — SIERA: 4.40 — K Rate: 16.5% — K/9: 6.28 — BB Rate: 7.6% — FB Rate: 41.7% — HR/FB: 12.1%

Houston Astros vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.314 (Rank: 14) — Strikeout Rate: 25.3% (Rank: 29) — wRC+: 101 (Rank: 10)

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.79 (Rank: 15)

Analysis: Gonzalez is a serviceable starter in the majors. He has a 4.17 SIERA with a K/9 of 7.3. Those are very respectable numbers, especially when you are pitching in the American League East. He’s not a great fantasy option though, especially tonight against the Astros. Gonzalez has a high fly-ball rate and a high HR/FB rate and he’s facing an Astros’ offense that hits a lot of home runs.

Pitcher Rating:47.3

Lance McCullers (FD: $5600, DK: $5600)

Pitching Stats:
2015: IP: 15 — SIERA: 3.31 — K Rate: 26.9% — K/9: 10.80 — BB Rate: 9.0% — FB Rate: 29.3% — HR/FB: 0.0%

Baltimore Orioles vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.315 (Rank: 13) — Strikeout Rate: 22.6% (Rank: 27) — wRC+: 99 (Rank: 12)

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.76 (Rank: 20)

Analysis: McCullers has been a bit wild at times, but he’s pitched well in his first two major league starts. He needs to work on his command moving forward, but he’ll remain a great tournament play as long as his price stays under $6,000. McCullers has had excellent strikeout numbers in the minor leagues and he has a K/9 of 10.8 so far in the majors. He’s worth a look tonight against the Orioles, who have the fourth-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: As I mentioned above, Miguel Gonzalez is a fly-ball pitcher that has an above-average HR/FB rate. That could be great news for the Astros, who hit a ton of home runs. Valbuena gets the nod as the featured play, as he gets the lefty/righty matchup. Valbuena homered last night and he should be batting in the heart of the order tonight.

Analysis: After the series that he has had, Pederson may want to consider joining the Rockies when he becomes a free agent. Pederson has four hits in this series, three home runs and a triple. Those four hits have racked up eight RBI. He should be considered the top overall play in the outfield tonight, ahead of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout. Once again, load up on the Dodgers’ offense in both cash games and tournaments.

Analysis: Mike Bolsinger gives up higher splits to left-handed hitters, but I like Arenado as the featured play from the Rockies tonight. He has been swinging a hot bat with six multi-hit games in his last ten. He has a .398 wOBA and a .321 ISO against right-handed pitching this season and he’s playing at home in Coors Field, which is the best hitter’s park in baseball.

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.64 (Rank: 29)

Analysis: Kluber has been the best pitcher in baseball this season. He has a 2.34 SIERA with a K/9 of 11.3. He throws a ton of strikes, which helps him rack up the strikeouts, as well as pitch deep into games. He draws a difficult matchup tonight against the Royals though. My rule of thumb is to avoid pitchers that are playing in Coors Field and pitchers that are facing the Royals. He could obviously dominate this lineup like he has so many others, but I’m not sure that I want to pay the premium for him in this matchup.

Pitcher Rating:87.9

Jason Vargas (FD: $6300, DK: $6300)

Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.93 (Rank: 3)

Analysis: Even though the Indians’ lineup consists primarily of left-handed hitters, they still hit left-handed pitching well as a whole. They are ranked 11th in wOBA (.325) and 2nd in strikeout rate (15.8%) against southpaws. Not only does he find himself in a tough matchup, but he’ll likely see very limited run support with Corey Kluber on the mound for the Indians.

Analysis: Santana is a better play on DraftKings than he is on FanDuel, because you can use him as your catcher. He has hit left-handed pitching well throughout his career (this season is an anomaly) and he draws a favorable matchup against Jason Vargas, who has given up a .322 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

Analysis: Gee is making his first start since May 3rd, after a groin injury has kept him out of the rotation for the better part of a month. He draws a fantastic matchup tonight against the Padres, who are ranked 28th in wOBA (.289) and 24th in strikeout rate (21.7%) against right-handed pitching this season. The only concern here is potential rust. I like to wait at least one start before targeting pitchers that are coming back from an injury.

Analysis: Dollar for dollar, Shields is my favorite pitching option on the board tonight. He has been dominant this season with a 2.74 SIERA and a K/9 of 11.6. He has struck out 30.7% of the batters that he has faced. His HR/FB rate of 22.4% is unsustainable and we will certainly see some positive regression moving forward. He draws a terrific matchup tonight against the Mets, who are ranked 29th in wOBA (.288) and 27th in wRC+ (85) against right-handed pitching this season.

Analysis: Karns has pitched better than his price on FanDuel and DraftKings would suggest. He owns a 3.99 SIERA with a K/9 of 8.4. He does tend to lose his command at times, but he still offers great value at his price point. He draws a favorable matchup against the Angels, who are ranked 26th in wOBA (.292) against right-handed pitching this season. Karns is worth a look as a deep sleeper in tournaments.

Analysis: Santiago may only have a HR/FB rate of 7.1%, but his fly-ball rate of 50% scares the daylight out of me. When you are giving up that many fly balls, you are going to give up home runs. He has a decent strikeout rate this season, but the Rays hit left-handed pitching well as a team. Santiago can safely be avoided in all league formats.
