Jason Marquis (FD: $5700, DK: $4100)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.06 — K Rate: 18.7% — K/9: 7.58 — BB Rate: 7.0% — FB Rate: 35.0% — HR/FB: 20.9%
Kansas City Royals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.330 (Rank: 2)
Strikeout Rate: 15.4% (Rank: 1)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.62 (Rank: 30)
Analysis: All right class, what are the two rules when it comes to starting pitching? Repeat after me: “Don’t target pitchers in Coors Field and don’t target pitchers against the Royals.” Not even the great Johnny Cueto could figure the Royals’ offense out. It’s fairly safe to say that Jason Marquis isn’t going to figure them out either.
Pitcher Rating:37.7
Jeremy Guthrie (FD: $6500, DK: $5000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 5.34 — K Rate: 8.4% — K/9: 3.27 — BB Rate: 6.2% — FB Rate: 32.0% — HR/FB: 10.6%
2014: SIERA: 4.34 — K Rate: 14.4% — K/9: 5.51 — BB Rate: 5.7% — FB Rate: 36.7% — HR/FB: 9.4%
Cincinnati Reds vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.303 (Rank: 19)
Strikeout Rate: 20.3% (Rank: 17)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.74 (Rank: 24)
Analysis: Guthrie is a sizable favorite tonight at home, but that says more about the opposing pitcher than it does about him. Guthrie has not pitched well this season with a 5.34 SIERA and an extremely low K/9 of 3.3. He should not be on your radar tonight, even though Vegas has him listed as a big favorite (-150).
Pitcher Rating:48.0

Joey Votto (FD: $3600, DK: $4600)
Position Eligibility: FD: 1B — DK: 1B
2015 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.386 — ISO: 0.263 — wRC+: 142
2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.342 — ISO: 0.093 — wRC+: 116
Analysis: All of the left-handed hitters in the Reds’ lineup are in play tonight and I don’t mind using them together. Since the start of 2014, Jeremy Guthrie has given up a .370 wOBA to batters that hit from the left side of the plate. Votto is very affordable on both FanDuel and DraftKings and he hits right-handed pitching well, posting a .386 wOBA and a .263 ISO this season.

Alcides Escobar (FD: $2800, DK: $4300)
Position Eligibility: FD: SS — DK: SS

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.295 — ISO: 0.079 — wRC+: 86
Analysis: There aren’t any plays that stand out as must starts tonight against Jason Marquis. Basically, I like the entire Royals’ offense as a whole, so it really just comes down to pricing. Escobar makes a strong play tonight on FanDuel. He’s not only cheap, but he is decent against right-handed pitching and he provides speed at the top of the order.
Secondary Plays:
Eric Hosmer (FD: $4100, DK: $4900)

Shaun Marcum (FD: $6300, DK: N/A)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.70 — K Rate: 21.1% — K/9: 7.2 — BB Rate: 15.8% — FB Rate: 50.0% — HR/FB: 16.7%
Chicago White Sox vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.310 (Rank: 17)
Strikeout Rate: 19.5% (Rank: 12)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.71 (Rank: 26)
Analysis: Marcum will be making his first major league start since 2013. He finished that year with a 4.22 xFIP and a K/9 of 6.9. It would be surprising to see him replicate those numbers this year. We should take a wait and see approach with Marcum.
Pitcher Rating:43.5
Carlos Rodon (FD: $6800, DK: $6400)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 5.17 — K Rate: 21.3% — K/9: 9.37 — BB Rate: 17.5% — FB Rate: 38.3% — HR/FB: 5.6%
Cleveland Indians vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 20)
Strikeout Rate: 16.5% (Rank: 3)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.91 (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Rodon is one of my favorite tournament plays tonight. He has a high strikeout rate of 21.3% and he is priced under $7,000 on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The Indians make pitchers work for outs, but they are only ranked 20th in wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Rodon would also see a small boost if Carlos Santana is still out of the lineup. Rodon provides great upside at his price point and he’s actually listed as a small favorite (-130).

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.394 — ISO: 0.250 — wRC+: 153
Analysis: Shaun Marcum has only given up a career .303 wOBA to right-handed hitters, but he is a pitcher that is far from his prime. Vegas is expecting the White Sox to knock him around a bit tonight and once again, Abreu is underpriced on FanDuel. He is listed at a bargain-bin price of $3,600. Dollar for dollar, David Ortiz is still the better play at first base, but Abreu deserves consideration as well.

wOBA: 0.322 (Rank: 8)
Strikeout Rate: 21.8% (Rank: 25)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.81 (Rank: 17)
Analysis: Gonzalez has not pitched well this season, posting a 4.99 SIERA and a K/9 of 5.9. He has a high fly-ball rate and he is pitching in Coors Field tonight. That’s not a great combination. He gets the honor as the lowest rated pitcher on the board tonight.
Pitcher Rating:24.3
Eddie Butler (FD: $5600, DK: $4200)
Pitching Stats:

Analysis: Butler has not pitched well this season, posting a 5.62 SIERA with a low K/9 of 5.3. He can safely be avoided tonight in Coors Field in a game that features the highest run total on the board.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.292 — ISO: 0.132 — wRC+: 84
Analysis: Once again, the Phillies entire offense sees a huge fantasy boost thanks to the Coors Field effect. All batters in the Phillies’ lineup are in play tonight, especially those that hit from the left side of the plate. Since the start of 2014, Eddie Butler has given up a .457 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Howard has a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and I’m calling my shots: he homers tonight in Coors.

Analysis: Much like the Phillies, the entire Rockies’ lineup is in play tonight. Severino Gonzalez has given up a high wOBA to batters from both sides of the plate and the Rockies have the highest team total on the board tonight. A Rockies’ stack is awfully enticing tonight, especially given their depressed prices. Blackmon gets the nod as the top cash game option, as he has a .380 wOBA and a .198 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

Tsuyoshi Wada (FD: $6200, DK: $6500)
Pitching Stats:
2014: SIERA: 3.89 — K Rate: 19.7% — K/9: 7.40 — BB Rate: 6.6% — FB Rate: 41.3% — HR/FB: 8.2%
San Diego Padres vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.312 (Rank: 21)
Strikeout Rate: 19.8% (Rank: 14)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.86 (Rank: 10)
Analysis: Wada will be making his first start of the season. He pitched well last season with a 3.89 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.4. He gave up a lot of fly balls, but that shouldn’t be a big issue tonight in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Wada has pitched well in his six minor league starts this season and he is worth a look as a value pitcher against a Padres’ offense that is ranked 21st in wOBA (.312) against left-handed pitching this season.
Pitcher Rating:57.4
Tyson Ross (FD: $8900, DK: $9000)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 3.55 — K Rate: 26.3% — K/9: 10.64 — BB Rate: 12.7% — FB Rate: 19.7% — HR/FB: 12.5%

Chicago Cubs vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.309 (Rank: 18)
Strikeout Rate: 25.8% (Rank: 30)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 4.01 (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Ross has the highest strikeout potential of any pitcher taking the mound tonight. On the season, he has a 3.55 SIERA with a K/9 of 10.6. Tonight he faces a Cubs’ offense that has the highest strikeout rate of any team against right-handed pitching this season. The one concern with Ross tonight is that the Cubs are ranked 1st in pitches per plate appearance this season. Ross can be erratic at times and if the Cubs are patient at the plate, they could draw quite a few walks. It’s a concern, but not a big enough one to avoid him in the best pitcher’s park in baseball.

wOBA: 0.307 (Rank: 23)
Strikeout Rate: 20.2% (Rank: 15)
Pitches per Plate Appearance: 3.75 (Rank: 20)
Analysis: Anderson has pitched well this season with a 3.13 SIERA and a K/9 of 6.0. We would like to see a higher strikeout rate, but at his price point, he still deserves fantasy consideration. He draws a decent matchup against the Giants, who are ranked 23rd in wOBA (.307) and 15th in strikeout rate (20.2%) against left-handed pitching this season. Anderson is a small favorite (-120) tonight in a game that features a low total of 7.0 runs.

Analysis: Lincecum has been a serviceable starter for the Giants this season, but he’s not on my radar tonight against the Dodgers. Los Angeles is currently ranked 1st in wOBA (.363) and 9th in strikeout rate (19.1%) against right-handed pitching. The Dodgers are also a patient team at the plate, taking the 6th-most pitches per plate appearance.
