Alex Colome (FD: $6000, DK: $5500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 1.73 — K Rate: 33.3% — K/9: 10.8 — BB Rate: 0.0% — GB Rate: 41.7%
2014: SIERA: 5.05 — K Rate: 13.4% — K/9: 4.94 — BB Rate: 10.3% — GB Rate: 37.8%
Boston Red Sox vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.316 (Rank: 10)
Strikeout Rate: 16.1% (Rank: 3)
Analysis: Colome pitched well in his first start of the season, striking out six batters over five scoreless innings of work. He only threw 60 pitched in that start though and he’ll likely be on a pitch count again tonight. The price is cheap enough that he could still reach value, but he’ll need close to a perfect outing if he is going to put himself in line for the win. He draws a tough matchup against the Red Sox, who are ranked tenth in wOBA against right-handed pitching and he has to face them in the hitter-friendly Fenway Park. Unfortunately, there’s not enough upside to warrant fantasy consideration.
Pitcher Rating:53.4
Justin Masterson (FD: $6900, DK: $6400)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.18 — K Rate: 17.3% — K/9: 6.91 — BB Rate: 9.5% — GB Rate: 52.9%
2014: SIERA: 4.03 — K Rate: 19.6% — K/9: 8.11 — BB Rate: 11.7% — GB Rate: 58.2%
Tampa Bay Rays vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.296 (Rank: 22)
Strikeout Rate: 22.3% (Rank: 25)
Analysis: Masterson is one of the most inconsistent starters in baseball. He can lose his command at any point during a start, as evidenced by his walk rate of 9.5%+ in each of the last two seasons. However, he provides decent strikeout potential and he does draw a favorable matchup against the Rays, who are ranked 22nd in wOBA and 25th in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Masterson is not a recommended cash game option, but he makes a decent upside play in tournaments.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.362 — ISO: 0.218 — OBP: 0.339
Analysis: Kiermaier has been a disappointment in his last two starts batting leadoff, but he’ll remain an elite fantasy option on FanDuel if he’s hitting at the top of the order again tonight. He has good speed on the bases and decent power against right-handed pitching (.351 wOBA). He also draws a favorable matchup against Justin Masterson, who gave up a .400 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season.

2014 vs. RH Pitching: wOBA: 0.364 — ISO: 0.248 — OBP: 0.359
Analysis: The sample size on Colome’s splits is still extremely small, so it’s hard to use them to predict future performance. What we do know is that Ortiz hits right-handed pitching well. He has a .407 wOBA and a .231 ISO against righties this season. He also gets to play at home in Fenway Park, which grades out as a top-five ballpark for left-handed hitters.

Ubaldo Jimenez (FD: $6900, DK: $7300)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 2.93 — K Rate: 26.2% — K/9: 8.74 — BB Rate: 9.5% — GB Rate: 67.3%
2014: SIERA: 4.61 — K Rate: 21.0% — K/9: 8.33 — BB Rate: 13.9% — GB Rate: 41.3%
New York Mets vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.284 (Rank: 26)
Strikeout Rate: 19.1% (Rank: 9)
Analysis: Jimenez could be facing a Double-A ball club and we still wouldn’t be confident about rostering him in cash games. He just has that uncertainty attached to him that we don’t like to see in cash games. That said, he has really pitched well this season with a 2.93 SIERA and a K/9 of 8.7. He still walks a lot of batters, but he’s been able to produce a lot more ground-ball outs than we have seen in year’s past. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Mets, who are ranked 26th in wOBA against right-handed pitching. He also gets to face them in Citi Field under National League rules. Jimenez is an intriguing tournament play that also deserves consideration as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.
Pitcher Rating:70.6
Jacob deGrom (FD: $8900, DK: $8500)
Pitching Stats:
2015: SIERA: 4.01 — K Rate: 18.3% — K/9: 6.98 — BB Rate: 5.6% — GB Rate: 38.0%
2014: SIERA: 3.19 — K Rate: 25.5% — K/9: 9.24 — BB Rate: 7.6% — GB Rate: 45.4%
Baltimore Orioles vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.346 (Rank: 2)
Strikeout Rate: 23.4% (Rank: 28)
Analysis: DeGrom hasn’t had a ton of success early on, posting a 4.01 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.0. Part of that could be due to the fact that teams have had a year to study his tapes and develop a game plan on how to attack him, but part of it could just be a slow start. He was one of the elite strikeout pitchers in baseball last season, striking out 25.5% of the batters that he faced. Tonight he faces a talented Orioles’ offense, but he gets to face them in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field under National League rules. He’s not the safest cash game play on single pitcher sites, but he makes sense as an SP2 on multi-pitcher sites.

Analysis: Ubaldo Jimenez has pitched well this season, but he is coming off of a 2014 campaign, where he gave up a .354 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Duda has always had great power against right-handed pitching, posting a .394 wOBA and a .270 ISO against righties last season. He’s a strong play at first base at his discounted price point.

Atlanta Braves vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.311 (Rank: 12)
Strikeout Rate: 16.4% (Rank: 4)
Analysis: Williams is an easy pitcher to avoid in the wonderful game of daily fantasy baseball. He has a mediocre SIERA with a below-average strikeout rate. He currently has a K/9 of only 5.3, while striking out 13.2% of the batters that he has faced. He draws a tough matchup against the Braves, who are ranked 12th in wOBA and fourth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.255 (Rank: 30)
Strikeout Rate: 19.6% (Rank: 11)
Analysis: Foltynewicz will be making his second career start. He gave up three runs and struck out two batters in five innings of work in his debut. He’s not a high-strikeout pitcher and even though he is facing a Phillies’ team that is ranked dead last in wOBA against right-handed pitching, he’s not a recommended fantasy play tonight. This could be a sneaky game to target both offenses.

He draws another great matchup tonight against Jerome Williams, who gave up a .348 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season. Analysis: Wieland has only made seven major league starts in the last three seasons. He has pitched well in the minors this year, but he inspires little confidence in daily fantasy baseball. Even though the Brewers’ offense has been downright dreadful this season, Wieland is too risky to use in cash games.

Analysis: Peralta has struggled to start the 2015 season. He currently has a 4.43 SIERA and a K/9 of only 5.2. He throws the ball hard, but he has never been able to turn that into an elite strikeout rate. He draws the toughest matchup on the board tonight, as the Dodgers are ranked first in wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

Kansas City Royals vs. RH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.345 (Rank: 3)
Strikeout Rate: 16.0% (Rank: 1)
Analysis: Carrasco is one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball, but he faces a Royals’ team that strikes out fewer than any other team in the majors. Something has to give in this matchup and if I had to bet, I’d put my money on Carrasco’s strikeout rate going down after tonight. The Royals’ offense is just too good and they provide tough outs even at the bottom of their order. This is not a matchup where I want to pay a premium for Carrasco.

Cleveland Indians vs. LH Pitching: (2015)
wOBA: 0.313 (Rank: 17)
Strikeout Rate: 16.5% (Rank: 6)
Analysis: Duffy is one of those pitchers that always seems to post decent numbers, yet he is rarely ever used in daily fantasy baseball. He does everything well, but his SIERA and strikeout rate never stand out. On the season, he has a 3.98 SIERA and a K/9 of 7.2. He draws a decent matchup against a left-hand heavy lineup of the Indians, who are ranked 17th in wOBA against left-handed pitching. He’s a serviceable play at the price, but there are pitchers in better spots tonight.

Ryan Raburn (FD: $2500, DK: $3000)
Position Eligibility: FD: OF — DK: OF
2015 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.508 — ISO: 0.286 — OBP: 0.474
2014 vs. LH Pitching: wOBA: 0.264 — ISO: 0.138 — OBP: 0.263
Analysis: Raburn was a letdown against the left-handed Jason Vargas last night, but he gets to face another southpaw tonight in Danny Duffy. Raburn has been terrific against left-handed pitching this season, posting a .508 wOBA and a .286 ISO. He is extremely cheap on both FanDuel and DraftKings and he’ll likely be batting fourth or fifth in this Indians’ lineup.
