Hello Grinders. Hope you all had a good 4th of July. I’m filling in today and we have an interesting eight-game slate tonight. Top-end pitching is really rough, so we’re really going to have to search hard for our arms. Let’s dive in!
Arms To Trust
Justin Verlander vs. Chicago White Sox
Verlander heads our list of arms on Thursday’s slate and it’s not really close. On the season, he has a 31.2 K% with a low 5.2 BB%. He’s also generating tons of soft contact (22%) while limiting hard contact (27.9%). He has a solid HR/FB ratio at 7.2% and has the benefit of pitching at home here, where he’s held opponents to a .166 batting average and .229 wOBA. The matchup is also an elite one, as the White Sox have the fifth highest K% against right-handed pitching this season at 24.9%.
