Happy Friday! Major League Baseball has 15 games on tap to begin the weekend – 14 of which have a scheduled first pitch of 6:40 PM ET or later.
As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. There are windy conditions being forecast in a number of ballparks, which could have an impact on the run-scoring environment in those games. San Francisco is also enduring some cooler temperatures, sitting in the low-60s around first pitch in The Bay.

Here are my top player prop bets, with the first pitch tonight scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Friday, July 24th:
- Grant Holmes Over/Under 14.5 Outs Recorded
- Joey Cantillo Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Troy Melton Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
Grant Holmes OVER 14.5 Outs Recorded (-175, BetMGM)
BETMGMHolmes isn’t an elite arm, but plan A will certainly be to get him through at least 5 innings. Atlanta suffered through some heavy bullpen usage in their most recent series against the Padres, using Raisel Iglesias and Dylan Dodd on Wednesday and Thursday and Tyler Kinley on Tuesday and Thursday. Didier Fuentes also threw 37 pitches on Wednesday.
Holmes has recently been stretched out to as many as 90 pitches and 24 batters faced. He would likely need to get shelled to get pulled before recording 15 outs.
Joey Cantillo OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+115, bet365)
BET365Cantillo has been 5-and-diving in July but not because he’s been inefficient. In his last 4 starts, he’s averaging only 3.71 pitches per batter faced, which is right around the league average. Cleveland has simply been managing his workload, pulling him from games after 80 pitches and 85 pitches in his most recent trips to the hill.
Tonight, Cleveland is likely to ask a little bit more of Cantillo. They played a 13-inning game yesterday, which forced Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, Colin Holderman, and Erik Sabrowski to be used for the 2nd time in a span of 3 days.
If Cantillo is remotely effective, he should have an opportunity to come out for the 6th inning.
Zebby Matthews OVER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-147, Novig)
There might not be a bullpen in worse shape than Minnesota heading into the weekend. Yoendrys Gomez, Andrew Morris, Taylor Rogers, and Jack Anderson have each been used in 2 of the last 3 games. Mike Paredes threw 49 pitches in long relief on Tuesday. Tommy Nance threw yesterday too.
Matthews has been given a long leash in these spots this season. He finished 6 innings on July 10th, despite allowing 4 earned runs and 9 hits. On June 11th, he completed 6 innings, despite allowing 7 runs on 9 hits. Minnesota is likely to give him every opportunity to get deep into this game, and if he’s in the zone, he should be successful in that endeavor against a free-swinging Athletics offense.
