Today’s MLB action began earlier this afternoon with an afternoon affair between the Astros and Cubs at Wrigley Field, but there is still plenty of action left to get underway as part of Friday’s 14-game slate!
As always, make sure to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers. We have already seen one game get postponed due to inclement weather. It’s possible that we could see rain impact a few other games this evening, too.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Friday, May 22nd!
Best MLB Player Props for Friday, May 22nd
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Friday, May 22nd:
- Bubba Chandler Over/Under 14.5 Outs Recorded
- Brice Turang Over/Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
- Grayson Rodriguez Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
Bubba Chandler OVER 14.5 Outs Recorded (-188, Novig)
Chandler completed only 3 innings in his most recent turn through the rotation, but that’s likely to be an aberration rather than a new normal for him. Chandler is one of Pittsburgh’s most prized pitching prospects. Thus, it’s rarely, if ever, going to be Plan A to pull him from the game before he gets through 5 innings.
Tonight, he will face an aggressive Toronto lineup that loves to offer at pitches early in counts. This could help Chandler get some more efficient outs, which could help him get deeper into this game than what we have seen from him in recent weeks.
Brice Turang OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-115, BetMGM)
Turang has struggled against southpaws this season, which is the reason for this price in the hitter prop market tonight against Justin Wrobleski. That said, not all southpaws are created equal. Wrobleski has one of the league’s lowest swinging-strike rates among qualified starters. This could give Turang another opportunity or two to experience some good luck on balls in play. Turang is also still likely to see a RHP for at least one trip to the plate later in the contest.
Grayson Rodriguez UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-149, Novig)
Rodriguez made his long-awaited return to an MLB mound last Sunday, allowing 7 earned runs in 3.2 innings of work. His short rehab stint in the minors yielded much better numbers, but those outings came in the Complex League and at Single-A. Facing big-league lineups, even weak lineups, is a much tougher task.
Texas hasn’t done much of anything productive at the plate in recent weeks, but this is still an interesting price. It’s far from a guarantee that a good pitcher will complete 6 innings. Asking Rodriguez to record 18 outs might be a tall task, unless the Angels are simply willing to leave him out there to eat innings, regardless of the results.
