Happy Wednesday! Major League Baseball has 14 games on tap for this evening, beginning at 6:35 p.m. ET with the Cubs against the Orioles.

It continues to be warm, but not overwhelmingly hot across the league as we hit the midway point of the week, with most of tonight’s forecast temperatures in the 80s. As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers.

Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Wednesday, July 8th!

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, July 8th

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM ET on Wednesday, July 8th:

Troy Melton OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-122, Novig)

In June, Melton had a 2.42 xERA and 0.73 WHIP. He benefited from some good luck on balls in play and a fortuitous strand rate, but his stuff looked good. In 5 starts, he had a healthy 11.2% swinging-strike rate and was earning plenty of swing-and-miss in the strike zone. The Athletics have the 4th-lowest contact% on swings at pitches in the zone during the last 14 days. There should be opportunities for Melton to once again find some strikeouts on Wednesday.

James Wood OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-147, DraftKings)

Wood has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season. He enters play on Wednesday with a 169 wRC+ against RHP and a 323 wRC+ across his last 35 plate appearances overall. Tonight, he will face Spencer Arrighetti, who has struggled to a 5.25 FIP and 1.41 WHIP across the platoon in 2026. This is good value for a talented hitter to do some damage this evening.

Luis Garcia Jr. OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-145, DraftKings)

Garcia has been hotter than fish grease in recent weeks, with a .425 batting average and 283 wRC+ since June 27. Tonight, he draws a favorable matchup against Spencer Arrighetti and a taxed Houston arm barn. Garcia is hitting .292 against RHP this season and should see RHP for most (if not all) of his trips to the plate on Wednesday. This is good value and a good stack with James Wood at the top of the Washington lineup.
