Happy Tuesday! The final week of the MLB regular season is finally here, with all 30 teams in action this evening, as 20 teams compete for 12 playoff spots in this year’s postseason. Of course, plenty of action and high stakes also mean plenty of betting opportunities.
As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.
Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.
Below, you can find my 3 picks for Tuesday, September 23rd!

Best MLB Player Props for Tuesday, September 23
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM ET on Tuesday, September 23rd:
- Brady Singer Over/Under 17.5 Outs Recorded
- Luis Gil Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
- Gavin Williams Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Brady Singer UNDER 17.5 Outs Recorded (-140, BetMGM)

Singer has routinely completed 6 innings since the All-Star Break, recording 18+ outs in 6 of his last 7 turns through the rotation. That being said, he hasn’t had a particularly long leash in any of those outings, facing more than 23 batters only 3 times since the beginning of August. Neither has Singer been particularly efficient of late, averaging 4.1 pitches per batter faced during the last 30 days.
Tonight, he will have to contend with a relatively patient Pittsburgh offense. The Reds also have a fully rested bullpen after yesterday’s scheduled off day. Manager Tito Francona is not afraid to be aggressive with his bullpen usage, and that is unlikely to change this week with the Reds fighting for the final playoff position in the National League. Singer isn’t likely to be given much leash if he finds himself navigating traffic on the basepaths in the 5th or 6th inning on Tuesday.
Luis Gil OVER 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-165, DraftKings)

In 9 starts this year, Gil has allowed 1 earned run or fewer 5 times, including 5 times in his last 7 turns through the rotation. That being said, his 2.41 ERA during his last 7 starts looks a little bit less intimidating when realizing that he has a 4.11 FIP and a 1.42 WHIP during that time frame. He hasn’t been missing many bats, nor has he been limiting traffic on the basepaths. He’s also allowed a fair amount of quality contact in that span. Chicago’s offense has been cold in recent weeks, but there are reasons to think Gil could work himself into at least some trouble this evening.
Gavin Williams OVER 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-168, DraftKings)

Williams blanked the Tigers across 5 innings last week, but he has the unenviable task of facing this lineup in a hyper-proximity matchup this evening. As much as Detroit’s offense has scuffled overall in recent weeks, this is still a lineup that has plenty of power potential with Kerry Carpenter, Spencer Torkelson, and Riley Greene in the heart of their order.
It doesn’t take much for even the most talented pitcher to allow 2 earned runs in an outing. This could be a bloop and a blast in one inning. It could be a pair of solo shots spread across an otherwise excellent performance. The over has some value.
