Happy Wednesday! Major League Baseball had 4 afternoon games on tap earlier today, but there are still 10 games to get underway as of this writing. Of course, that means plenty of betting opportunities still on the board as well!

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Below, you can find my 3 picks for Wednesday, August 20th!

Best MLB Player Props for Wednesday, August 20

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Wednesday, August 20th:

James Wood OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (+100, BetMGM)

Kodai Senga has struggled to a 4.49 FIP and 1.45 WHIP against left-handed batters so far in 2025. Tonight, he will have to face 7 of them, with Wood leading off that lineup for the Nationals. Wood has gone without a hit in 2 of his last 3 games, but had been seeing the ball well prior to that point, with a .357 batting average and a 173 wRC+ across his previous 6 games. Wood should have opportunities to find his way on base this evening, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him come to the plate with a guy or two on base in front of him. This is good value for a talented hitter who could see 5 trips to the plate on Wednesday.

CJ Abrams OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-110, Caesars)

Abrams has been excellent against RHP in 2025, hitting .268 with a 125 wRC+. Tonight, he gets to face Kodai Senga, who has struggled to a 4.85 ERA, 6.27 FIP, and 1.58 WHIP since rejoining the Mets rotation in mid-July. Abrams has been heating up of late, posting a 131 wRC+ and 3 multi-hit performances in his last 8 contests. This is good value for Washington’s 2-hole hitter playing at home against Senga.

Tanner Gordon UNDER 14.5 Outs Recorded (-115, BetMGM)

Place this bet with 1 click!PLACE THIS BET ONBETMGM

Since making his MLB debut last summer, Gordon has struggled to an incomprehensibly bad 8.30 ERA across 72.2 innings of work. This season, he has a 2.27 WHIP against RHB and a 1.45 WHIP against LHB, with a sub-15% strikeout rate against both sides of the plate. Simply, he doesn’t miss many bats, nor does he limit quality contact in any shape or form. If the Dodgers have any measure of good fortune on balls in play this evening, Gordon might not be in this game long.
