The Octagon is back in the Great White North for a fight night in Vancouver. The headliner has tenuous connections to Canada, but the card is filled with Canadian talent from the very first prelim to the co-main event of the evening. We begin in the women’s bantamweight division with a Canadian hopeful looking to leave a lasting first impression.

MMA DFS and Betting Breakdown: UFC Fight Night – de Ridder vs. Allen
Melissa Croden ($7,800) vs. Tainara Lisboa ($8,400)
Fight Odds: -128 Croden vs. +104 Lisboa
Weight Class: 135lb. (Women’s Bantamweight)
Melissa “Scare” Croden (UFC Debut) is making her UFC debut on her home soil as she looks to cement herself as a prospect to watch in the shallow women’s bantamweight division. The 34-year-old fighter will be at age parity with her opponent Tainara “Thai Panther” Lisboa (2-1 UFC). Croden presents a level of size and physicality that Lisboa has never seen inside the octagon, while Lisboa represents the most experienced combat athlete Croden has ever competed against.
If Croden shows up with a smart game plan, I believe she has the physicality to wrestle Lisboa to the ground and consolidate top position. The concern I have for her is that she relies on grabbing the double collar tie and pushing her opponents toward the fence, and Lisboa is an experienced Muay Thai practitioner who should be well trained for dealing with the clinch fight Croden is most comfortable engaging in. Croden has solid long distance tools like kicks and step in knees, but she has been rocked badly with counters before from UFC stand out Jacqueline Cavalcanti (4-0 UFC). She also may be a touch behind Lisboa in terms of hand speed.
I think this is a competitive fight where I have to favor the size, the physicality, and the home-town dynamics for Croden. Lisboa has been fighting undersized opponents in all of her UFC fights, including her loss against Luana Santos in which she was taken down twice, controlled for nearly 8 minutes, and submitted in the second round. Unless Croden gets stopped for the first time or cut up by elbows lingering in the clinch, she should have the pace and the aggression to win a tough UFC debut.
Prediction: Melissa Croden defeats Tainara Lisboa via Rd. 2/3/SDEC
