MMA Event Breakdown: UFC Fight Night – Allen vs. Curtis 2
Before the incredible card that is UFC 300, we have one final stop in Las Vegas for a fight night feature replete with short-notice matchups from the prelims to the main event rematch.
Melissa Mullins vs. Nora Cornolle
Fight Odds: -340 Mullins vs. +270 Cornolle
Weight Class: W138lb. (Women’s Bantamweight – Catchweight)
Melissa Mullins is a rough-and-tumble fighter from England with a sneaky good ground game that notched her a gold medal at the most recent IBJJF Brown Belt No-Gi World Championships. She has been training with a quality gym at Team Renegade, and she has demonstrated the ability to fall back on her toughness when needed inside the cage, surviving storms against UFC-quality power punchers Irina Alekseeva and Darya Zheleznyakova.
Nora Cornolle has the chops to win stand-up bouts in the UFC as a seasoned muay thai competitor from France, but her ground game looked substantially underdeveloped in her UFC debut in France against Joselyne Edwards. Despite nabbing the split decision as a sizeable underdog, many observers thought Cornolle was lucky to win and would have been unlikely to do so without “home field advantage.” I expect Mullins to have a ton of success with ground and pound before securing her first win by submission. If she is unable to get TDs, Cornolle becomes a live underdog.
Prediction: Melissa Mullins defeats Nora Cornolle via SUB Rd. 1/2 (RNC/Armbar)
