MMA Event Breakdown – UFC Fight Night: Dolidze vs. Imavov
Editor’s Note: This is the main card breakdown. The preliminary card analysis will be available Saturday.
Gilbert Urbina vs. Charles Radtke
Fight Odds: -200 Urbina vs. +170 Radtke
Weight Class: 170lb. (Welterweight)
Gilbert Urbina is not the first member of his family to make the walk inside the octagon, but he has a chance to become the winningest member if he can secure his second victory inside the octagon. Urbina dropped a short notice debut against Bryan Battle, failing to capture the title of the namesake reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter.” He has since bounced back with his first win inside the promotion, decimating an overmatched Orion Cosce within two frames of action. Charles Radtke on the other hand made his debut against Mike “Blood Diamond” Mathetha in Sydney, Australia and earned a forgettable, grind out decision win over the 35-year-old former kickboxer.
Radtke seemed like a dynamic finisher on the regional scene, securing 5 of his 8 wins via stoppage including 3 first-round finishes, so perhaps he will invite more risk in this fight with one UFC win already under his belt. Urbina is going to have a significant set of anthropomorphic advantages in this matchup, including a six-year youth advantage (27 vs. 33), a 6” height advantage (6’3” vs. 5’9”), and a 3” reach advantage (75” vs. 72”). Urbina should be rightly favored because of those intangibles, but grinding grapplers like Sean Brady have cooked Urbina to a decision, and his chin looked very shaky on TUF against Tre’Sean Gore, so the chalk prices seem a bit rich for my blood. Urbina should look to work from the outside, keep Radtke at a comfortable distance, and pick him apart at a manageable pace. If Radtke wants to win, he will have to push the pace, close the distance, and make Urbina break or quit under pressure.
Prediction: Gilbert Urbina defeats Charles Radtke via UDEC
