MMA Event Breakdown - UFC Fight Night: Dawson vs. Green

UFC Fight Night: Grant Dawson vs. Bobby Green

The UFC took some time off, and now we’re back in the UFC Apex for a low-key fight night offering headlined by a fun but aging veteran in Bobby Green and the unheralded Grant Dawson, an impressive lightweight with one of the longest unbeaten streaks in the UFC. The supporting cast of characters should set the stage for a violent night full of finishes and competitive scraps.

Montana De La Rosa vs. JJ Aldrich

Fight Odds: -150 De La Rosa vs. +125 Aldrich
Weight Class: W125lb. (Women’s Flyweight)

The first contest of the evening pits two seasoned flyweights against one another in an important matchup to see who deserves a step up in competition. For Montana De La Rosa, she has been fighting a brutal strength of schedule in the UFC and making a fine account of herself for the most part, but she hasn’t been able to achieve any breakout wins. JJ Aldrich has produced more success inside the octagon, producing an 8-5 record, while De La Rosa has produced just a 5-4-1 record. It was Montana De La Rosa who was originally signed to face Stephanie Egger on this date, but when Egger was forced to withdraw, Aldrich was willing to step up on short notice. Aldrich fought just 42 days ago and had a back-and-forth first round with Na Liang before securing a finish in the second round.

I think Montana De La Rosa is an inferior striker, but she is tough, she applies relentless pressure, and she has a slick submission game of her own. Aldrich is a potent boxer for women’s mixed martial arts, but she has a small stature, a short notice booking, and suspect grappling and takedown defense, so I have to side with De La Rosa.

Prediction: Montana De La Rosa defeats JJ Aldrich via SUB2/3
