Tamires Vidal is a young Brazilian prospect with dangerous finishing skills for women’s MMA. She is taking on a large, muscular bantamweight in UFC debutant Montserrat Rendon. Rendon stands an imposing 5’8”, two inches taller than Vidal, and she will look to use her size and leverage to keep distance, land strikes, and stay out of bottom position. These two women have a lot to prove as professionals, with Rendon having just 5 wins on her resume and Vidal having sketchy pre-UFC tape against Ailin Perez. Vidal earned a win her UFC debut against Ramona Pascual via TKO1, but she can be taken down, she accepts bottom position looking for leg locks, and she slows down significantly later in her fights.
I see Rendon making this a closely contested decision if she is able to avoid the finish, but Vidal seems like the more dangerous fighter with knockout and submission potential. I have to ultimately side with the younger fighter with the killer instinct, but both ladies are Brown Belts in BJJ with some ability to fight in multiple phases. Despite their belt rank parity, I think Vidal is a more confident, aggressive submission hunter, so it would not surprise me to see Vidal catch Rendon in her UFC debut.
