MMA Event Breakdown – UFC Fight Night: Kara-France vs. Albazi

Flyweight title hopefuls take center stage as the UFC returns from an off week with a patch quilt fight card meant to bridge the combat sports leader to their next pay-per-view offering from the Great White North next weekend. In the meantime, we’re left to deal with a bevy of short notice debutants, wildly mis-priced fighters on DraftKings, and number of binary matchups with strikers taking on grapplers or veterans taking on prospects. While the card may be a bit more thin than a typical UFC event, the main event is a high level flyweight fight getting the rare shine that it deserves. We can all cheers to that and hope the lower-level fights bring action and plenty of finishes.

Maxim Grishin vs. Philipe Lins

Fight Odds: -125 Grishin vs. +105 Lins
Weight Class: 205lb. (Light heavyweight)

Maxim Grishin has been inactive for some time after falling out of scheduled bouts against Jailton Almeida. At 39 years of age, he is anxious to get in the octagon as soon as possible while he is still in passable condition and form. Philipe Lins looked flat and disinterested to start his UFC run after winning the million dollar prize from the PFL.

Since dropping to light heavyweight, he has shown the ability to secure takedowns against Marcin Prachnio and easily detonate on Ovince St. Preux with his hand speed advantage and fast start. Grishin is not remarkably high volume, he is less likely to secure takedowns, and he is the slightly older fighter here, so I lean towards the slight underdog in Lins.

Prediction: Philipe Lins defeats Maxim Grishin via SDEC

Luan Lacerda vs. Da’Mon Blackshear
