This weekend we head to Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero Sugar 400. It’s all the final race of the regular season. The race is Saturday night at 7:30pm ET on NBC. You typically see a lot of salary left over. I can’t say it enough, it’s okay to leave $10,000-$15,000 on the table this weekend. You’re focusing a lot more on place differential than dominators. In the 9 Daytona races with the Next-Gen car, there have been an average of 6.1 cautions, but no race has had more than 8 cautions. The prior 6 races from 2019 to 2021, there was an average of 8 cautions with 2 races over 8 cautions. Even with the cautions being down, the optimal lineups still favor place differential and roster construction.
I should note, there is a new rules package this weekend for the teams. The rear spoiler is now 4 inches instead of 7 inches. This is the same height the teams have run on the intermediate tracks this season. They’ve reduced the horsepower from 510 to 465 with a smaller engine tapered spacer. The splitter and spoiler braces are like the intermediate package as well. The hope is faster single car speed and more overtaking opportunities. The pack speed is projected to stay the same. The biggest difference will be drivers being able to make more attempted runs. For DFS and betting, I don’t think it changes much for us. I think if anything, bigger blocks and runs create more issues and place differential is more of a factor than before.
NASCAR DFS Picks: Coke Zero Sugar 400
We can’t predict Daytona wrecks; lineup construction is king here. The stages are 35, 60, and 65, which is a total of 160 laps. The first stage is short to try and hope for more racing early on. With 160 laps, we’re looking at 16 laps led, and 16 laps completed points on FanDuel.
