This weekend we head to Phoenix Raceway for the Shriners Children’s 500. This is the first short-flat track of the season, and the first race with the new short and road course package. There was a 50-minute practice on Friday, and a lot of drivers said they didn’t feel much difference in traffic. I posted some driver quotes from practice in the NASCAR discord channel. Like the fall race, Goodyear has brought another new tire combo to Phoenix this weekend. This tire is a softer tire, which potentially will create more fall off on a long run. I’ll be using practice data, recent Phoenix data, short-flat track data, and a few other things when building lineups this weekend.

NASCAR DFS Picks: Shriners Children’s 500

With the long 50-minute practice on Friday, we saw a lot of teams making changes and running different setups. Teams had three sets of tires, and only a few teams made a mock qualifying run. Teams had a lot of time Friday night and Saturday morning to adjust. We have a lot of strong “practice” cars in good starting spots, but don’t forget, if a team car was strong (Bell), other team cars (Hamlin) are going to be looking at the notes from that car. With a new tire, new package, and new car bodies, there are a lot of unknowns this weekend. With that said, I think we will see more passing throughout the field, but it’s still extremely tough to pass the leader here at Phoenix.
