This weekend we head to Martinsville Speedway for the Long John Silver’s 200. This is a Friday night 7:30pm ET race on FS1. Martinsville is a short-flat track, but it’s a unique track that doesn’t comp well with other tracks. The inside line is a massive advantage here, and it’s very hard to pass the leader. It’s hard to pass in general but even tougher to pass the leader. Most of the passing here comes on restarts and pit road. Lapped traffic is another way to pass, but the Trucks have run a lot of laps under caution here in the last 5 races. There have been at least 11 cautions in 4 of the last 5 races here. There have been at least 63 caution laps in 5 straight races. I’ll be looking at recent Martinsville data, practice data, recent speed data, and a few other things when building lineups this weekend.

Qualifying is on Friday afternoon, so there is a tight window between qualifying and the race. I will have projections and LineupHQ tags posted by 6:30pm ET on Friday.

NASCAR Truck Series DFS Picks: Long John Silver’s 200

The stages are 50, 50, and 100, which is a total of 200 laps. With 200 laps, we’re looking at a potential of 90 fastest laps and 50 laps led. With the stages the way they are, you can stay out until the end of the 2nd stage and only make one pit stop. I think some teams may even pit at the end of stage 1 and try to go to the end of the race. The fuel window is 105 to 115 laps, and with the caution potential, we could see a lot of different strategies.
