NBA Advanced Matchups: Sunday, March 29th
Welcome to the NBA Advanced Matchups, presented by Ohnjz. I’ll be taking you deep into the depths of NBA advanced stats to uncover the top plays in each NBA slate (with four or more games). We’ll consider a broad spectrum of metrics here, including SPORTSVU player and shot tracking, play type data, individual defensive metrics, and my personal favorite, Ohnjz’ bad-jokes-and-snarky-comments-per-article. As always, this work is meant as a guide to help you hone in on what advanced stats would suggest are some of the top plays – but it’s ultimately up to you to decide how to build your lineups.

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE
SUNS PG/SG ERIC BLEDSOE
An under-appreciated strategy during Russell Westbrook’s run of DFS immortality is to target the PG opposing him. I’ve mentioned it in multiple AMPs before, but for all of his offensive prowess, Westbrook simply isn’t getting it done in effort or effectiveness on the defensive end. The Thunder are 27th vs opposing PGs on the season, and some of the bigger lines they’ve allowed have come during his Hero Mode games. Tonight’s opposing floor general, Eric Bledsoe, is a great example. Bledsoe had himself a game while Westbrook was dropping 80 FPTS:
• February 26th: 28 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal, 4 blocks
Not too shabby. Westbrook got 80+ FPTS that day but also cost an awful lot more than Bledsoe, who cracked 65+ FPTS himself. With this matchup, Bledsoe’s 50+ FPT upside is certainly intact tonight. You’ve heard me gush about his game before: Bledsoe has rare triple-double potential for being such a small guard, and couples excellent steal potential with being one of the only PGs who actively tries to block shots. He’s a menace when he’s on. Unfortunately, he’s also woefully inconsistent, and is in a patented Bledsoe stretch where he either gets you 25-30 FPTS, or drops a 50+ bomb. Tonight is a night to gamble on his unique upside in tournaments.
