Welcome to the NBA Advanced Matchups, presented by Ohnjz. I’ll be taking you deep into the depths of NBA advanced stats to uncover the top plays in each NBA slate (with four or more games). We’ll consider a broad spectrum of metrics here, including SPORTSVU player and shot tracking, play type data, individual defensive metrics, and my personal favorite, Ohnjz’ bad-jokes-and-snarky-comments-per-article. As always, this work is meant as a guide to help you hone in on what advanced stats would suggest are some of the top plays – but it’s ultimately up to you to decide how to build your lineups.

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE
BLAZERS PF LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE
The DVP suggests a horrible matchup for LaMarcus Aldridge tonight (Heat are 7th in PF DVP this season). However, without Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat simply have no one capable of containing Aldridge’s offensive game. Aldridge has had little trouble with ‘tough’ DVP matchups of late, dropping 45+ FPTS on both the Wizards and Raptors in his last two games; both teams are in the top-10 in PF DVP this season (Wizards: fifth; Raptors: eighth). The individual matchups look particularly tasty for LMA tonight, as he should find little resistance raining midrange jumpers over players like Chris Andersen and Udonis Haslem. With averages of 23.4 PPG and 10.2 RPG over his last five games, Aldridge looks poised for his third straight 45+ FPT performance tonight.
