NBA Daily Grind Down: Tuesday 3/26

The RotoGrinders NBA Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the NBA schedule each night. This article will break down the defense vs. position rankings for every single game and give you analysis on where you can exploit these matchups.
While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy basketball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, minutes, and salaries. The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections.
The Grind Down today is short and simple. There are only 3 games on the schedule and there are a few very solid defenses playing. While tonight will be tough, we still have the matchups and advice for each game.
NOTES:
1) Defense vs. Position rankings are how well a team defends against a certain position. The ranking is for the team that it is listed under, NOT the opponent.
2) Rankings are as follows: 30 is the worst defense against a position, 1 is the best.
3) Last 10 Game Data is collected at the start of each week. It will be updated each Sunday for the upcoming week.
New York @ Boston – 7:00 pm EDT
| New York D-Rank | Last 10 | Season | Boston D-Rank | Last 10 | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Point Guard | 5 | 10 | Point Guard | 18 | 7 |
| Shooting Guard | 9 | 6 | Shooting Guard | 28 | 14 |
| Small Forward | 15 | 3 | Small Forward | 24 | 11 |
| Power Forward | 22 | 4 | Power Forward | 2 | 17 |
| Center | 6 | 2 | Center | 13 | 18 |
- The Knicks are not a bad defensive team and actually rank in the top 10 against every position in the season rankings. That however doesn’t mean that you should stay away from the Celtics tonight. The injury to Kevin Garnett and the fact that there are only 3 games tonight makes a few Celtics at least decent options. I like Paul Pierce a lot tonight and if you are looking for some value, maybe take a chance on either Brandon Bass or Chris Wilcox, both get a bump in value with KG out.
- On the Celtics defense, you generally want to stay away from PG’s going up against them. Bradley is a great defender so Felton isn’t the best option tonight. I do like Carmelo Anthony in this one, he has really been playing well and usually picks up his rebounding when Tyson Chandler is out. Chandler isn’t officially out yet, but if he is, Kenyon Martin also makes a great play.
Minnesota @ Detroit – 7:30 pm EDT
| Minnesota D-Rank | Last 10 | Season | Detroit D-Rank | Last 10 | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Point Guard | 22 | 25 | Point Guard | 27 | 14 |
| Shooting Guard | 11 | 25 | Shooting Guard | 25 | 24 |
| Small Forward | 14 | 5 | Small Forward | 28 | 21 |
| Power Forward | 3 | 23 | Power Forward | 23 | 13 |
| Center | 26 | 4 | Center | 28 | 27 |
- If you are going to load up on one of the games tonight, I think this is the right one to do it on. The T-Wolves are not known for their defense and Jose Calderon, Brandon Knight, and Greg Monroe all could put up solid games tonight.
- For the Pistons, they really struggle against all positions, but specifically against Centers. Nikola Pekovic is a must play tonight, Ricky Rubio should continue to fill up the stat sheet, and Andrei Kirilenko could make a good value play.
L.A.Clippers @ Dallas – 9:30 pm EDT
| L.A.Clippers D-Rank | Last 10 | Season | Dallas D-Rank | Last 10 | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Point Guard | 14 | 1 | Point Guard | 8 | 16 |
| Shooting Guard | 6 | 8 | Shooting Guard | 12 | 30 |
| Small Forward | 27 | 20 | Small Forward | 13 | 23 |
| Power Forward | 1 | 2 | Power Forward | 24 | 24 |
| Center | 5 | 1 | Center | 24 | 17 |
- The Clippers are really solid on defense with the exception of defending SF’s. I would stay away from all Mavericks not named Dirk Nowitzki or Shawn Marion.
- For the Clippers, I think Blake Griffin should have a solid night. Chris Paul also has a solid matchup, but he is a bit overpriced so take him only if you can fill the rest of your team out with solid guys.
