Opening night didn’t exactly go as planned. I had way too much exposure to the Knicks. I thought they had a real chance at knocking off the defending champs. Clearly, that was not the case. After a nice little appetizer on Tuesday evening, we have a full meal on tap tonight. There are 10 games on the schedule. The nice part about the start of the season is that none of the teams are playing in the front or back half of a back-to-back.
We have a lot to cover today, so I won’t waste too much time on the introduction. It’s good to have NBA DFS back in our lives. As always, I will cover the top projected plays from each team and give my thoughts on potential pivots and leverage plays for tournaments. If you are new to the article, welcome. Team Previews
Indiana Pacers (at DET)
The Pacers enter the season at relatively full strength. Isaiah Jackson is listed as questionable tonight, but he’s their only player on the injury report. They made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, so expectations are high in Indiana. They enter this season with a win total of 46.5, which isn’t as high as I expected. Perhaps the market thinks the Pacers overperformed last season. The Pacers open their 2024-25 campaign against the Pistons, who were one of the best matchups for fantasy production last season.
Tyrese Haliburton was a double-double machine last season. He averaged 20.1 points and 10.9 assists per game. While we have no shortage of superstars to choose from tonight, he strongly deserves consideration in tournaments. I will note that the Pistons played at a slow pace and were stout defensively in the preseason, but we should take those numbers with a grain of salt. Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner both project as reasonable options at their respective positions but aren’t going to make the final cut in my single build. As long as Aaron NeSmith, Bennedict Mathurin, and Andrew Nembhard are all healthy, they will cut into each other’s playing time and fantasy production.
