Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Jusuf Nurkic – I already viewed Nurkic as a strong tournament play. He has scored over 45 fantasy points in 4 straight games and now sees a major boost with Lauri Markkanen out. His minute floor is safer, and he has seen a 4% usage boost with Markkanen off the floor this season. He also draws an elite matchup against the Bulls, who are 3rd in pace and 26th in points allowed per game.
Dean78904: Jusuf Nurkic – I don’t love trusting the Jazz to play straight-up, as management would prefer to lose, but the game environment vs. Chicago is just too good to ignore. Lauri Markkanen has been downgraded to doubtful, and Nurkic has seen the biggest usage bump on the team with him off of the court this season (3.5% – up to 22.16%). The Bulls play fast (3rd-fastest pace in the NBA), have the 5th-worst defensive rating, and have given up the 5th-most points in the paint, so the matchup is prime. We have not seen Nurkic get rug-pulled in a while, as he has played 30+ minutes in 7 straight games (if we exclude the 2 games he was in foul trouble). The Bosnian Beast has been in spectacular form, racking up at least 47.5 DK points in each of his last 4 games. Barring goofiness and assuming he continues to get 30+ minutes, his salary is too low when considering his upside, making Nurkic one of my favorite plays on the board.
ncorfield8k: Keyonte George – With Lauri Markkanen out, George should take on an even bigger role in the offense. It’s not as great of a matchup as it once was, with the Bulls now ranking just 21st in pace over the last 10 games. But the Bulls still rank 21st in defensive rating over the last 10 games, and it’s the 13th-best matchup for Scoring Wings in our Defense vs. Archetype tool.
Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
