Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Ja Morant – We currently have Morant projected for less than 20% ownership, which is music to my ears. I haven’t played him a ton this season, but he’s coming off his best 3-game stretch in a long time. He has scored 53, 40, and 47 fantasy points in those outings. He draws an elite matchup tonight against the Hawks, who are 2nd in pace and 25th in points allowed per game this season.
Dean78904: Jalen Johnson – In a small sample, we have seen Johnson’s assist and usage rates dip with the addition of CJ McCollum. I’m not saying it’s fake, but I don’t think it will prove to be as drastic as we’ve seen so far. Despite that, no player is currently projected to play more minutes or compile more raw points than Johnson, as he is in the best game environment on the slate. ATL/MEM is one of, if not my favorite, game stacks on the board, with Johnson being a top spend for GPPs.
ncorfield8k: Jalen Johnson – I love this game in general, and it starts at the top. Johnson’s pOWN% is quite reasonable, and he could break the slate. He just played 40 minutes in his last game, and if this game stays competitive, I expect him to play big minutes again. It’s a strong spot against the Grizzlies, who have played at the 9th-fastest pace over their last 10 games while ranking 17th in defensive rating. It’s the 6th-best matchup for a Versatile Forward in our Defense vs. Archetype tool.
What is your hot take of the slate?
