NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Friday, March 22
Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Zion Williamson – Even though the Pelicans are expected to be without Brandon Ingram, it doesn’t look like many will be willing to pay a premium for Zion in a matchup against the Heat. With Ingram off the floor this season, Zion has seen a 4% usage boost and has averaged 5.1 more fantasy points per 36 minutes. He’s also been playing some of his best basketball of the season, scoring at least 43 fantasy points in 6 of his last 7 games.
squirrelpatrol: Scotty Pippen / Jordan Goodwin – Scotty Pippen is the more expensive of the two Grizzlies PGs but he is listed questionable tonight, so I may start with Pippen in many of my lineups and then swap down to Goodwin if necessary. I’d be surprised if Memphis players see high ownership if we don’t have clarity on their injuries before lock. The Spurs play at the 3rd-fastest pace this season and allow the 6th-most points per game in the NBA – if we knew the Memphis starting lineup the team would be more popular, but I’ll get some cheap Memphis players into my lineup with the excellent matchup and use late swap to adjust after lock if I need to.
eys819: Rudy Gobert (or Naz Reid, or Luka Garza) – I have interest in whomever is starting at center for the Wolves while Karl-Anthony Towns remains out. Gobert and Naz Reid are both questionable and missed last game, allowing Luka Garza to play 22 minutes. I will start my builds with exposure to Gobert, and if he is ruled out pivot down to Naz. If both are ruled out, Garza becomes playable. I will make sure to have enough exposure to the later games to be able to pivot to Garza and upgrade additional roster spots with the salary savings.
Bobby Gomes: Zion Williamson – Brandon Ingram will be missing some time (knee injury), and his production will be missed. Trey Murphy’s usage will spike, but now is the time for Zion to show his questionable eliteness. The Heat may be without Bam Adebayo tonight, and that will certainly benefit the Pelicans frontcourt. Zion has consistently been in the 45-55 fantasy points range this season, and his price keeps him palatable. Early pOWN% has him at sub-5% on DK.
