NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, January 25

Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Jimmy Butler – With ownership projections of 5% on FanDuel and 1% on DraftKings, we don’t have to worry about Butler becoming popular. His middling form, combined with a tough matchup against the Celtics, is scaring everyone away. I tend to look Butler’s way in more difficult matchups, as that’s when the Heat lean on him more offensively. This game is in Miami and features a spread of only 7 points, so it should stay competitive throughout.

squirrelpatrol: Tyrese Maxey – Joel Embiid will likely draw some interest after his triple-digit fantasy performance last game, and the Pacers give up the most points in the paint in the NBA this season. But Embiid is carrying a massive price tag, and the Pacers play at the fastest pace in the NBA, which feels more like a Maxey game than an Embiid game. Maxey has seen his price tag drop but is still averaging 24.7 points and 7.3 assists per game in the month of January.

headChopper: Nikola Jokic – The Nuggets are on an island game, meaning they didn’t play yesterday and don’t play tomorrow. So, rest isn’t an issue. Yet, early projections have Jokic at 4% ownership or less on each site. He’s playing in what might be the most competitive game of the night against a team who will accommodate the pace he likes to play at and has no real defensive presence inside to slow him down.

eys819: Coby White – The price tag might feel uncomfortable, but he has shown a big ceiling with Zach LaVine off the floor this season. White is coming off one of those ceiling performances in his last game, where he put up 26 points and fell one assist shy of a triple-double against the Suns. Value is hard to come by on this slate, and finding upside in the upper mid-range might be the key.
