NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, March 28
Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Jonas Valanciunas – I know his playing time has been trending in the wrong direction for quite a while now, but he sees a nice boost in both usage and FP/min production with Brandon Ingram off the floor. Perhaps a matchup against Brook Lopez will lead to a few extra minutes, as they have to be two of the slowest centers in the league. Ultimately, I like taking a chance on some of these lower-owned value plays that have upside.
tcsmith031: Brook Lopez – Lopez’s apparent disdain for grabbing rebounds gives him a low floor for a center, but contrarian plays are hard to come by on 2-game slates. He’s affordable, and the Bucks should need some size in this matchup against the Pelicans. New Orleans is yielding nearly 39 3-point attempts per game this season, which is the 2nd-highest average in the league. That suits Lopez well, considering he spends most of his time on offense loitering around the 3-point line.
headChopper: Jaylen Brown – I mentioned above the pOWN% numbers coming in very low on the Celtics team in general. Even in a blowout, though, someone has to score. Brown has a reasonable price tag and is looking like a low-owned player according to early projections. I don’t think this game stays close, and I don’t think the big Boston names get much run in the 4th quarter. However, on a 2-game slate, someone in this starting unit needs to do enough to get them off the floor with a big lead.
eys819: Giannis Antetokounmpo – It is difficult to get up to Giannis with only 2 games on the slate and not a ton of value. Dejounte Murray getting ruled out would certainly make it easier, but it would almost certainly raise the pOWN% for Giannis also. I am hoping Murray plays, and I can lean into some of the uncomfortable values like Bruno Fernando and Larry Nance to make Giannis lineups work.
