NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Wednesday, January 24

Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: LaMelo Ball – I’m excited to see what he can do with Terry Rozier no longer in the mix. He’s been solid since returning from injury, topping 47 fantasy points in all 5 games. The usage is through the roof, and he gets to square off against the Pistons, who are 6th in pace and 28th in defensive rating. Perhaps most importantly, he logged 35 minutes in Monday’s game against the Wolves.

squirrelpatrol: Nick Smith – Smith is another player who could benefit with Terry Rozier no longer in Charlotte and the Hornets drawing an excellent matchup against Detroit. Smith is one of the Hornets’ first-round picks from this past April’s draft and a player they could want to see more from in the second half of the season. Even without the Rozier trade, Smith is averaging over 19 minutes per game in January, his highest monthly average on the season.

headChopper: Giannis Antetokounmpo – Our early ownership numbers are seeing Giannis projected at less than 5% ownership on both sites. That’s already a great incentive to roster Giannis in GPPs. I’m also rolling with the narrative tonight that his coach was fired yesterday, in part because of his displeasure. So, I think he feels the pressure to step up immediately in the wake of that firing.

Stevietpfl: LaMelo Ball – Terry Rozier was traded on Tuesday, and it doesn’t sound like Kyle Lowry will play for the Hornets until after the trade deadline. In 237 minutes with Rozier and Gordon Hayward (out) off the floor this season, Ball has seen a 5.7% usage increase. He’s averaging 1.58 fantasy points per minute with those two off the floor this season. Detroit is allowing 27.6 real-life points per game to opposing point guards, which is the 2nd most in the NBA this season. In 9 games without Rozier this season, Ball has scored at least 28 real-life points in 8 of the games.

Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
