Should we roster the chalk picks? How off-the-board should we get in large-field tournaments? Squirrel answers all of these questions and more below!

The NBA Christmas Day tradition continues this year, even with some competition from the NFL, with a slate that is unique on the year. We have five games spread throughout the day, happening one after the other, each featuring teams with winning records. The Bucks and Knicks tip things off at 12PM ET in New York in the game with the highest total of the slate, followed by the Warriors in Denver to visit the Nuggets at 2:30PM ET. The Celtics travel to LA to face the Lakers in the 5PM ET game, with the 76ers coming over for Christmas dinner with the Heat in an 8PM ET game. The Mavericks and Suns finish the slate tipping off at 10:30PM ET in Phoenix. We might need overtime in the Philadelphia-Miami game to pull it off, but if things break right we may have 13 straight hours of being able to avoid family by watching NBA basketball. Pour the eggnog and get a trash bag for the wrapping paper, because it’s time to sort through the slate and figure out what to do with our DFS lineups.

Making a List of Point Guards and Checking It Twice

On the Good PG List: Tyrese Maxey, Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson

The biggest injury news on the slate is that Joel Embiid is expected to miss this game for Philadelphia, which opens up a massive hole in usage that the rest of the 76ers will be looking to fill. With a 1.38 FD / 1.37 DK point per minute average in 304 minutes with Joel Embiid off the court this season and an average of 37 minutes per game, Maxey is going to be tough to get away from, even in a less-than-ideal matchup on the road in Miami. Luka Doncic is the highest-projected player on the slate without Kyrie Irving, and Doncic’s already-insane 1.7 DK point per minute average actually increases a bit to 1.72 with Kyrie off the court this season. Jalen Brunson gets the benefit of facing a Milwaukee team that allows the 8th-most points in the NBA this season, and the Knicks-Bucks matchup is the highest-point total game on the slate.
