Core Plays LIVE: NBA DFS Picks for Sunday, November 2nd

Wembanyama of the Spurs

A daily fantasy sports OG, Notorious has been roaming the DFS streets ever since they were invented. He has racked up multiple live final seats and several six-figure tournament wins in his DFS career. On weekends, Taylor Smith takes the reins. So, who better to walk you through the madness of an NBA DFS slate? Core Plays LIVE will zoom out on the slate as a whole, zoom in on the best plays, and constantly update as news breaks. Whether you are diving into the slate 5 hours before it starts or 5 minutes before it starts, you’ve come to the right place.

Howdy! We’re once again looking at different NBA slates on DraftKings and FanDuel tonight. Both slates start at 6 PM ET, but FD decided to tack on the late-night Heat-Lakers clash in LA that starts 90 minutes after every other game. That obviously makes things quite different, as I hear that Luka Doncic fella is a pretty good basketball player.

I also have to say Game 7 last night was one of the best sporting events I’ve ever watched. The billion-dollar Dodgers having their season saved by Miguel Rojas – of all people – was about as unexpected as it gets, while Andy Pages absolutely bodying Enrique Hernandez to make another series-saving play was utterly bananas. Yoshinobu Yamamoto should run for mayor. The whole thing was insane. People were setting fireworks off and running through the streets here all night after it ended. Imagine not liking sports.

Anyway, back to the other sport.

News Updates

Here’s where I’ll provide news updates.

Team Previews

Maxey of the 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers (at BKN)

The Sixers are off to a decent start this season, and tonight they’ll face the Nets without Joel Embiid, Paul George, Dominick Barlow, or Jared McCain. Philly is still a 5.5-point road favorite in this one, however, because the Nets are awful. Brooklyn’s offense has been passable – 18th – but they’re dead last in defensive rating so far this season.

Embiid’s absence means we’re projecting Adem Bona to draw the start at the 5, but he’ll likely split the center minutes with Andre Drummond. We know Drummond is elite per-minute (1.29), and he’s slightly cheaper than Bona around the industry. Both are playable, but our projections greatly prefer Drummond, even off the bench. Tyrese Maxey (32.3%) and V.J. Edgecombe (24.5%) lead the Sixers in usage with Embiid sidelined, and both players are logging heavy minutes on a nightly basis. Maxey won’t come cheap at $9,800 on both sites, but he’s been in flames to start the season. Edgecombe is much easier to justify on FanDuel ($6,500) than DraftKings ($7,400).

Kelly Oubre and Quentin Grimes play enough to grade out as passable values, especially on FD, where they continue to hover in the low-$5,000 range.

Brooklyn Nets (vs. PHI)

The Nets are going nowhere fast. They and the Pelicans are the only winless teams so far, and Brooklyn’s minus-14 point differential is tied with the Wizards for the worst mark in the East. They’re 5.5-point home ‘dogs to the shorthanded 76ers this evening. Danny Wolf and Haywood Highsmith are the only players missing from the lineup tonight.

Since the Sixers offer so much value, I think it makes sense to run it back with someone on the Brooklyn side in GPP builds. Cam Thomas (1.02 FP/minute) and Michael Porter Jr. (1.15) are going to be the standouts as long as they continue to dominate the Nets’ usage. MPJ is a particularly solid mid-range option, especially assuming he draws limited ownership. I don’t mind taking a shot on a cheap Nic Claxton with Embiid missing from the Sixers’ lineup, while Terance Mann is cheap enough to stay in a player pool in his starting role. I’ll likely max-1 anything on the Brooklyn side.

Memphis Grizzlies (at TOR)
