On Thursday, NBA Digital partnered with FanDuel to launch NBA InPlay, a real-time mobile fantasy app you can play while watching nationally televised NBA games where you compete against others to win prizes.

“We are always looking at ways to enhance the viewing experience, drive people to tune in to our broadcasts and increase the time spent watching live games,” said Melissa Rosenthal Brenner, NBA Senior Vice President of Digital Media. “NBA InPlay has the potential to meet these objectives while offering our fans an engaging, new way to experience the game.”

What makes NBA InPlay unique from its DFS competitors is that there are no entry fees to play. Here’s how it works:

1. NBA InPlay automatically recognizes the audio of any NBA game on cable or satellite. If there’s an NBA game on TNT, NBA TV, ESPN or ABC, open the app and it will synchronize with your television.

2. Compete against friends in a private game or against other NBA fans in public contests.

3. Choose a game and one of the teams. Your team will consist of four players, one for each quarter. You earn points based on their performance using FanDuel’s scoring system.

4. During the game, you can activate four Turbo Boosts per quarter to earn extra points. Activating Turbo Mode allows you to get points from all your team members, plus even higher points from your player in that quarter. Each Turbo Boost lasts 48 seconds, so timing is crucial if your player is about to spot up for a three-pointer or is on a fast break.

5. Rise up the leaderboard and win official NBA prizes, as well as a chance at the Grand Prizes of $35,000 towards Autotrader and NBA Finals tickets.

The app is now available for free on both the App Store and Google Play. Users will be able to try out the new app in time for the December 22nd game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat on TNT at 8:00 PM EST.
