NBA Expert Picks Preview: Thursday, January 29th

Glean insight from the best minds in the industry as they list picks they’ll actually be targeting in their tournament games, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Author Disclaimer: Please remember, these picks are not necessarily safe for your 50/50-H2H games. They are intended to separate yourself from the herd in an attempt to be contrarian and different. The most logical outcomes don’t always play out on a given NBA slate, so we are looking for the guys that may surprise, that few will roster.

POINT GUARD
Brandon Knight $7,300 – Knight is on my radar as my top GPP PG option of the night. The Magic have given up 100+ points in 10 straight games, are the third-best matchup over the past three weeks on our DvP tool for PGs, and generally play little defense right now. Knight is about the only player you can trust for big minutes on the Bucks, and should be in line for a huge night, as all the underlying statistics have him poised for a huge game.
Derrick Rose $7,200 – I can see many DFS players tonight taking Knight or Rose, then pairing them with Galloway, so why not go against the herd and take both higher priced players tonight? The Lakers are the fourth-best matchup over the past three weeks for PGs, and Rose has clearly recovered from his early season injury woes. Rose should have little trouble putting up a nice game tonight, and combining him with Knight can separate you from the herd.
SHOOTING GUARD
Jimmy Butler $8,200 – What if I told you that you could roster Jimmy Butler at 10-15% owned or less against the Lakers on a four-game slate? Would that interest you? Butler is questionable to play tonight with the flu (I think he plays), and that coupled with a bad outing in his last game against the Warriors, means he could have really low ownership tonight. There is no SG that can match his upside, and with a prime matchup against the Lakers, Butler can really set you apart from the crowd, as the public takes shots on the cheaper guys that just played their best games of the season (Ellington and Clarkson).
O.J. Mayo $4,900 – Mayo is hot right now, scoring double-digit actual points in eight of his last 10 games. As mentioned above, anyone against the Magic becomes a viable option, as they are playing the worst defense in the league right now. He is priced just a little higher than Ellington and Clarkson, and should come much lower owned. Mayo has more upside than those guys on most nights, and if Nick Young sits for the Lakers, I like him as a pivot over Ellington, who should be very popular tonight.
