NBA GPP Plays: Wednesday, March 25th

hooop

When building an NBA DFS GPP lineup, the main concept to keep in mind is upside.

You really want to build a lineup full of guys that have tremendous potential and high ceilings. NBA DFS is a little bit different than the other sports, as there is much more predictability due to the high volume of action in games.

This article will not focus on one site, but the idea here will be to present some players that are in good spots for large-field, GPP-style tournaments across the industry.

Point Guard

Kyrie Irving – Although Memphis does possess a one of the league’s best team defenses they have shown some vulnerabilities against opposing point guards. The CLE/MEM has a very tight spread with Cleveland favored by two points. Kyrie Irving has the GPP-winning upside that we are looking for when building tournament teams. His ownership levels will be very low tonight due to this tough matchup. Irving is a solid GPP option tonight.

Trey Burke – Trey Burke would have been in line for a monstrous performance on Monday night if he could have made a shot. Burke finished the game with around 30 fantasy points, however he only managed to make 4/22 shots. The Jazz will be thin yet again tonight, which means the extended playing time will be there. He will have a prime opportunity tonight for increased production. The matchup is strong against the lacking defense of Damian Lillard.

Shooting Guard

Jimmy Butler – The price on Jimmy Butler varies widely across the industry. On sites where he has a depressed price tag, Butler is a fine cash game play, but on sites such as FanDuel where the price is relatively high, I like him better for GPPs. Butler returned from injury on Monday and hopped right back into to his 40 minutes per game role. The Bulls are favored by one in this road game against Toronto, therefore the full allotment of minutes should be present.

Kyle Korver – The price on Korver is so low industry-wide due to a streak of down performances. Korver is one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA and is very capable of getting hot from behind the arc at any time. His price is at a level where he could easily surpass his value threshold by simply scoring the ball. Korver is a fine price point, tournament option tonight.

Small Forward

Danilo Gallinari – The price on Gallinari his shot up quite a bit on most sites due to his monstrous 40 actual point game. The price increase has me viewing Gallinari as a GPP option opposed to a cash game option. He will have an excellent opportunity to follow up his 40-point game with another solid performance due to his elite match-up with the 76ers. The 76ers allow the third most three-point field goal attempts per game in the NBA, which is something Gallinari should take full advantage of in this matchup. Gallinari is a solid tournament option due to his rising tag.

LeBron James – LeBron will be the lowest owned superstar tonight due to a difficult matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, James is a matchup-proof player and I love the idea of targeting him in what should be closely contested game (CLE -2). LeBron is a great GPP option tonight due to his projected low ownership. This will provide us an opportunity to roster one of the league’s best players while others will be looking elsewhere.

Power Forward

Kenneth Faried – The Manimal proved to us all on Sunday why he is much better suited for tournament play opposed to cash game play. In an elite matchup against the Orlando Magic, Faried managed to produce a disappointing 11/5 stat line which left many DFS players scratching their heads. Tonight, Faried draws another elite matchup with the very vulnerable frontcourt of the Philadelphia 76ers, who have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing power forwards. I love Faried for tournaments tonight.

Adreian Payne – It appears as though the Timberwolves will be extremely shorthanded yet again tonight when they face off with the Lakers. Payne will likely draw the start and have the first crack at seeing extended minutes. If he performs well, he will likely stay on the court and log a ton of minutes, if he does not perform well the Timberwolves will go small and Payne will log limited minutes. The volatility in playing time makes Payne a solid GPP play tonight.

Center

Roy Hibbert – I suppose you could use Hibbert in cash games as well due to his low price tag, but I think he is much better suited for tournament play. Hibbert has shown some signs of productivity lately with double-digit actual points in five straight games. If he continues to score double-digit points, the upside for Hibbert is immense due to his ability to rack up a ton rebounds and blocks. This upside, combined with a great price makes Hibbert a solid GPP option tonight.
