In 2015, I tried to play NBA DFS.

It did not go well.

I was fine doing the research. I was fine collecting stats, thoughts, and information throughout the day. I could build a strong team that would have done well, but (stop me if you’ve heard this one before…), the way you start your roster in NBA is rarely the way you finish it. Oftentimes, the end of the day hits us with toe injuries (toe injuries?) that cause players to sit, with paper cuts that lead to last-minute scratches, and with dental-appointment-hangovers that cause star players to take the night off. Ten minutes before tipoff? Fifteen minutes before tipoff? Everything you worked toward throughout the day no longer matters. When a high-usage-rate player sits, that usage goes elsewhere – and this often means we have about 10 or 15 minutes (sometimes more; sometimes less) to figure out where that usage goes in order to roster the cheap player with massive upside, and to figure out how the rest of our roster needs to be optimized from there.

With this (ridiculously important) step of NBA DFS, I was completely lost – and as such, I completely lost the money I put in play.

If you’ve played NBA DFS in the past, you understand the frustration that comes with those last-minute news breaks. Even if you’re a sharp player – even if you have been consistently profitable – the lack of confirmation from industry minds can be maddening. I think I know where the usage is going…but I could be miles off.

In the past, RotoGrinders followed the basic DFS content blueprint for NBA: Post articles in the morning, providing plenty of good research and advice – then let that research and advice stand throughout the day. And this makes perfect sense, when you think of it; after all, what high-dollar DFSer has time when late news breaks to both change all their rosters and break down for Premium subscribers exactly how the late changes will impact rotations, usage, production, etc. If we follow conventional thinking, there is not a simple solution.

Lucky for members of the RotoGrinders family, we don’t follow conventional thinking.

Each Monday through Friday this year, we are launching a new feature within LineupHQ: Crunch Time, with Kevin Roth and Andy Means (ranked top 100 Superheavyweight – the highest buy-in tier in DFS). And if you’ve been paying attention during NBA Preseason DFS, you know just how incredible this new setup is!

Each slate – for the last half hour before tipoff – Roth will hang with Andy on air, hosting Crunch Time. As Andy tracks news and makes adjustments to his own roster(s), he’ll share his thoughts in real-time regarding the way in which late-breaking news affects the slate as a whole. And when there is no late-breaking news to track and break down, Roth will pull questions from Chat to ask Andy on air, providing Premium members with up-to-tipoff thoughts, followed by a post-tipoff look at ownership and the setup of the slate as a whole.

Premium subscribers will be able to access Crunch Time in LineupHQ – which means you can continue pounding research and building lineups right up until lock, while tuning into Andy’s thoughts, all without leaving your lineup headquarters!

This is a true game-changer in NBA DFS – a chance to hang with a pro right up until tipoff each day, gaining a complete understanding of who will benefit from the late-breaking news that can wreck so many rosters.

That’s not all!

Each day, we will also have our Core Plays article to kick off the day (handled by Andy each weekday and Allan Lem on weekends), with a look at the main guys to focus on when building rosters (and with the intensive research that is both Andy and Allan’s signature style!).

Each day, you’ll have access to Consensus Value Rankings – where our experts rank their top point-per-dollar plays on the slate.

Each day, you’ll have access to Expert Survey, in which some of the top minds in the industry break down the slate from a macro perspective – talking about who they will be most overweight on, who they plan to fade, who they see as a must-play value, and more.

Each day, you will have the ridiculously valuable Projected Ownership from Chris Gimino (worth the price of admission to Premium on its own!), and each day you will have access to LineupHQ Filters, in which our experts highlight their favorite Core, Cash, GPP, and Value plays.

Each day of NBA Premium brings you our Daily Matchup Charts, and our Premium Chat (where guys like Notorious, STLCards, and Andy pop in throughout the day to answer your questions about the slate).

And this season, we are launching our Premium Live Blog: a statistics- and analysis-driven look at how late-breaking news impacts the slate – an incredible (and incredibly in-depth) complement to Crunch Time each day.

And remember, all of this will be accessible on one page: LineupHQ.

What are you waiting for?

NBA is here.

You should be here too!
