NBA Starting 5: Saturday, December 10th

The Starting 5 Series will provide Grinders with a quick look at the day’s top positional plays, analyzed through the lens of our Daily Research Tools.

Today, we’ll take a closer look at the Ceiling and Consistency tool. I’ll sort by the last three weeks to see what players are performing well in relation to their FanDuel salary.

The Ceiling and Consistency tool shows you how often each player has hit their value based on that day’s salary. The percentage columns (%3x, %4x, etc) show the percentage of the time that particular player has hit that value multiplier. For example, if a player has a salary of $5,000, the %3x column will show the percentage of games in which he has scored at least 15 fantasy points ($5,000 divided by 1000, then multiplied by 3).

Point Guard: Jamal Murray

I like Murray for a GPP flyer tonight even if Mudiay plays. Mike Malone has been cutting Mudiay’s minutes, as he’s averaging only 22 per game over the last four. Murray’s floor for minutes tonight is about 20 with the chance of upper 20s if Mudiay sits. Murray has shown the ability to go for 6-8x value at this price point, so throw Murray in a few lineups if you’re running out multiple lineups tonight. You’re going to need to take a few chances tonight if you want to roster multiple superstars.

Shooting Guard: J.J. Redick

JJ should be low owned after his dud last game, and this is a great spot to be profitable. Blake Griffin is questionable, which would only boost Redick’s workload. We saw this against the Nets when Blake sat. Redick took 18 shots that game and has a similarly juicy matchup tonight. If you can get 15+ shots out of someone price at $4100, it’s almost a no brainer. Even if Blake plays, Redick is still in play simply because of the plus matchup.

Small Forward: Evan Turner

The Pacers/Blazers game will likely end up being the highest total of the night, so you’re going to want a piece of it. Evan Turner is a great tournament play, as he has finally flashed the 30-fantasy-point upside that we’ve been waiting for. Harkless is probable to return, but Aminu is doubtful tonight, which should mean a few more minutes for Turner off the bench. These two teams played less then two weeks ago, and Turner posted 32 FanDuel points in 27 minutes. There’s no reason to think that he can’t do that again tonight.

Power Forward: Markieff Morris

I never feel good about rostering Markieff, but he’s still too cheap, and he get’s another good matchup against the weak defensive frontline of Milwaukee. If he can just put together a solid first half, then he might be able to put up a monster game. Lately, the DFS community has been going into halftime hating themselves for rostering Keef, but he’s been able to turn it around in the second half. Here’s to two good halves from Markieff tonight!

Center: Myles Turner

Another solid play from the high over/under in Indiana is Turner. He put up 19 and 10 in the previous matchup, and he’s had a few more solid games since then. At $5900, theres still a chance for him to crush value tonight. The Blazers are just a terrible defense all around, and I fully expect this game to turn into another track meet. Hopefully, this one just stays a little bit closer than the last one, in which case you’re going to want multiple pieces of this game.

Starting your FanDuel lineup with these five guys will leave you with an average of $9,200 left per player. That’s what we want on this superstar packed slate.

Hopefully this information helps you with your roster construction today and leads you to a nice score. As always, feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me on Twitter, @Socky21.
