NFL DFS Duds Report: Reviewing Week 9

It didn’t go well for everyone in this week’s NFL slate. We need to look back on the duds of DFS after a slate of an otherwise eventful day in the NFL. We had great action on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo for daily fantasy sports, but these players may have spoiled your fun. We’ll reflect on the DFS projections and ownership projections, and look for ways we could have avoided these low scoring plays for our DFS lineups. Using our ResultsDB tool, let’s take a look back at three of the very worst picks players made.

Today’s ResultsDB Low DFS Scorers From Last Week

Tyler Lockett

tyler-lockett-800x480

DraftKings Salary: $6,800
FanDuel Salary: $7,400
Yahoo Salary: $30
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 8
DraftKings Fantasy Ownership: 24.58%

Tyler Lockett was Week 9’s biggest bust at the wide receiver position as he caught 4-of-7 targets for 40 yards. Lockett did just nearly miss out on a couple of big plays but his usage was still underwhelming in a game that Russell Wilson threw the ball 41 times. Overall, Lockett is an extremely puzzling fantasy commodity as other than his two monster spike weeks, he’s only averaging 6.1 targets and 52.5 yards per game. Based on Lockett’s volatile profile you could argue that he’s best reserved as a tournament only option moving forward but I expect he’ll continue to see heavy ownership, especially at a reduced price tag on DraftKings ($6,500).

Justin Jackson

DraftKings Salary: $4,900
FanDuel Salary: $5,900
Yahoo Salary: $20
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 0
DraftKings Ownership: 23.35%

Sometimes the injuries hit and there’s just nothing you can do about it. Typically, however, those injuries don’t happen on the first play of the game and you can at least salvage a little bit of fantasy production. That wasn’t the case on Sunday as Jackson played a single snap before getting hurt and ended up playing a total of just 3 snaps. The end result was a goose egg from the third-highest owned RB on the slate. Jackson’s status will be worth monitoring heading into Week 10 as his absence would mean an increased workload for Joshua Kelley and Kalen Ballage in a good on-paper matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

James Conner

DraftKings Salary: $6,900
FanDuel Salary: $8,200
Yahoo Salary: $26
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 4
DraftKings Ownership: 20.24%

I am just as confused as you guys are about this one. James Conner was the slate’s fourth-highest owned running back and ended up being a complete dud as he scored just 4 DK points on 11 total touches. Conner did handle the majority of the team’s RB touches but was only on the field for 32-of-69 offensive snaps. Conner gets a good rebound matchup against the Bengals in Week 10 but it will be worth monitoring reports out of Pittsburgh to see if his puzzling usage gets explained.
