Weather Report and Forecast for the NFL Divisional Round

Patriots QB Maye

We’ve moved on to the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, and much like Wild Card Weekend, every game is outside, and weather is a factor in some spots.

This NFL weather report will highlight any extreme temperatures, precipitation, and most importantly, high winds that we could see across the NFL landscape this week. If a game isn’t specifically listed in this week’s report, that means the weather is quiet enough for it not to be an issue in that particular game.

NFL Divisional Round Weather Report and Forecast

As always, it’s best to stay up to date with the very latest forecasts, so follow me on Twitter/X @KevinRothWx and keep an eye on my main weather page. A reminder that while temperature and rain/snow can impact a game, the greatest impact by far comes from high wind, so I’ll be looking to highlight those spots when possible.

Saturday, January 17th

Buffalo Bills @ Denver Broncos – A slight breeze, sustained around 10 mph, but with mild temps and no precipitation, I don’t expect any real weather issues.

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks – Perfect weather in Seattle. Temps are in the upper 40s with calm winds and no rain.

Sunday, January 18th

Houston Texans @ New England Patriots – A mixed bag here. It’s cold, with game-time temps hovering around freezing, and there’s a chance of some snow showers or flurries…but winds look to stay light, and I don’t expect any precipitation that is heavy enough to truly matter. At the end of the day, it’s not perfect, but it’s good enough not to cause major game impacts.

LA Rams @ Chicago Bears – A lot happening in Chicago. We’ll start with the lock: it’s cold – very, very cold. Actual temperatures will be in the teens, and feels-like temperatures will be in the single digits. There’s also a chance for some snow flurries. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, winds look mildly problematic as well. Latest sustained winds are showing up closer to 15 mph, with gusts of 25 mph or more possible. Some of the worst wind may hold off until after the game, but it’s looking closer and closer. So we’ve got bitter cold, a biting wind, and the chance for a bit of snow. All in all, not great weather.

How Will the Weather in the Divisional Round Affect Betting & Fantasy Football Picks?

The two Saturday games look fine, but both Sunday games are suboptimal. The real issue here is the Chicago game, where I expect the combination of bitter cold air and wind will lead to a decrease in scoring, in particular for passing and special teams.

In case things change, I’ll be posting radar GIFs to Twitter/X as we get closer to kickoff.
