NFL Football Diaries: Week 9 Recap

This is going to be a weekly segment in which I break down a cash game lineup I used and a GPP lineup. It’s an effort to show what my mindset was heading into the games and how those decisions ultimately turned out.

I believe the decision-making process is the most important thing in DFS and not necessarily the actual outcome. Hopefully reading this can help with roster construction in some way, either through my good rosters or even learning from my bad ones.

Cash-Game Team

Nick Foles – Ouch, that hurts. Losing your starting QB in the second quarter when he is on his way to a monster game is brutal. In addition to that, he was surprisingly low-owned around the industry. So, when he went down, I didn’t have that crutch of being able to say “Oh well, at least everyone has him”. Tough break to the ole’ bankroll.

head1

Jeremy Hill – In cash games, he was an easy play. I don’t believe in the phrase “must play”, but he was the closest thing at his price this weekend.

Lamar Miller – Although Miller ended with a TD, I was disappointed with this stat line. I thought this game would be more run-centric for Miami. Instead, Tannehill decided to bless us with one of his three great games this year. Thanks Ryan.

Jeremy Maclin – Maclin is, by far, the most consistent WR in the NFL. Just a great weekly play in cash games. For a WR, his floor is astonishingly high, and he also has that big game potential.

Andre Johnson – This was a swing and a miss here. I went with about a 9:1 ratio of Andre Johnson to DeAndre Hopkins this week – bad call to say the least. I just felt that they may try to appease him and feed him a TD in this game, but he clearly wasn’t interested in performing.

Michael Floyd – He had a decent matchup, and after two lackluster games I was thinking he may be in for a big one. At this point, we just have to recognize Floyd for what he is… not a #1 WR on this team, as he was made out to be by experts.

Rob Gronkowski – Cash-game TEs these days should begin and end with Gronk, now that he’s back to full health. Fire him up every week.

GPP Team

Ryan Fitzpatrick – It’s a GPP and no one is going to be on Fitzmagic right? So why not? I believed in Andre Johnson and I thought DeAndre Hopkins was decent also, so it only stands to reason that Fitzpatrick was a fair play.

head2

Marshawn Lynch – I viewed Lynch as a shaky cash play due to the lack of work over the past several weeks and no TDs recently. However, the upside was there for a true skittles game, so he was a great GPP play.

LeSean McCoy – Similar to Lynch, the recent production hasn’t been there, but you never know when that big game is lurking around the corner.

Dez Bryant – Bryant was the epitome of a boom or bust this week with that fraudulent QB named Weeden at the helm. Good night Baby Dez, for as long as Weeden is your QB I want no part of it.

Michael Floyd – I double-dipped on these next two guys, as I felt strongly about both their matchups.

Andre Johnson – Johnson was probably my most owned WR this week, as I really felt a big game coming for him. He was heavily targeted to this point in the year and had a nice matchup. It didn’t pan out.

Jordan Reed – Well, in a large field you can get spunky at TE, and this was a guy I chose to dance with on Sunday on GPP teams. I was hoping for a little RG3 revival, with Reed possibly being the beneficiary. No dice son.
