Best NFL Player Props for Thursday Night Football: Cowboys vs. Eagles
Here are my top player prop bets, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 PM ET on Thursday, September 4th:
- Dak Prescott Over/Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
- Jalen Hurts Over/Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
- Dak Prescott Over/Under 248.5 Passing Yards
Dak Prescott UNDER 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-135, BetMGM)

Last season, there were 10 starting quarterbacks who didn’t play in the preseason – 9 of those 10 quarterbacks failed to throw multiple touchdown passes in Week 1 of the regular season. This year, Prescott has the added challenge of being someone who is coming off of a serious hamstring injury that prematurely ended his 2024 campaign in Week 9.
Every year around this time, there is the debate between rust and rest. Data from recent years more strongly supports the idea that quarterbacks are rusty in their first live game action of the regular season when they don’t get a proper tune-up during the preseason.
Jalen Hurts UNDER 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-135, bet365)

Hurts draws an extremely favorable matchup out of the gate, facing a Dallas defense that could be among the worst in football this season. That being said, Hurts didn’t play in the preseason this year. His top options in the passing game have also missed important reps in recent weeks, with A.J. Brown fighting through a hamstring injury and DeVonta Smith missing practice due to a groin issue.
Last season, Hurts was the only quarterback who sat out the preseason to throw multiple touchdown passes in his team’s regular season opener, but he also got to play in the Sao Paulo game, where poor field conditions made defense next to impossible. Assuming a more neutral playing environment this time around, he could have a more difficult time finding success through the air. There is also the very real possibility that Hurts plays well against a poor Dallas defense but that the run-heavy Philadelphia offense prioritizes the ground game near the goal line. There are a few different ways in which Hurts’ under could cash in this spot.
Dak Prescott UNDER 248.5 Passing Yards (-114, FanDuel)

Sticking with the same vein of rust potentially having a negative impact on these quarterbacks, the under on Prescott’s passing yards could also have some value. This Philadelphia secondary might not be as strong as they were last season, but this is still a well-coached defense that Dallas will have to contend with in their first live action of the regular season.
There is also the fact that the Cowboys promise to be a more run-heavy offense this season under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He has repeatedly told the media throughout the spring and summer that he wants to establish the ground game this season, which could also eat into some of Prescott’s passing numbers.
In 8 games last season, Prescott went under this number in 5 games. If there is any rust – or if the Cowboys truly end up committing to running the football – 250 passing yards could be a difficult threshold to hit.
