NFL Week 1 Weather Report and Forecast

Chiefs QB Mahomes

NFL is finally here, and we’re kicking off Week 1 with a few games that could see some rain.

This NFL weather report will highlight any extreme temperatures, precipitation, and, most importantly, high winds that we could see across the NFL landscape this week. If a game isn’t specifically listed in this week’s report, that means the weather is quiet enough for it not to be an issue in that particular game.

NFL Week 1 Weather Report & Forecast

As always, it’s best to stay up to date with the very latest forecasts, so follow me on Twitter @KevinRothWx and keep an eye on my main NFL weather page.

A reminder that while temperature and rain/snow can impact a game, the greatest impact by far comes from high wind, so I’ll be looking to highlight those spots when possible.

Thursday Night Football, September 4th

Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles – Some scattered light rain showers are possible. I’d put the overall rain coverage around 60%, but I am not currently expecting any truly heavy rain.

Friday Night Football, September 5th

Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers (in Sao Paulo, Brazil) – Low chance of any rain, winds around 10 mph.

Sunday Main Slate, September 7th

Carolina Panthers @ Jacksonville Jaguars- There’s a chance of a stray afternoon shower or storm, but the coverage looks low enough that the likely outcome here is a dry game with winds around 10 mph.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns- Winds should stay around 10 mph all game. That’s just strong enough that it’s worth mentioning, but likely not strong enough to have any real impact on play.

Las Vegas Raiders @ New England Patriots- Some scattered showers around during the game. I think it’s likely they see some rain, though for now it looks mostly like lighter showers as opposed to a true washout.

Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos- A few showers are possible in Denver on Sunday, but the overall coverage doesn’t look all that impressive. We’ll need to do a quick radar check pregame to see if this one ends up with some rain.

Sunday Night Football

Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills – Temperatures in the 50s are a bit cool considering the time of year, but not cold enough to have any impact on the game. Winds are light and we are likely to stay dry, so I am expecting near-perfect conditions in this game.

Monday Night Football, September 8th

Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears – Mild temps, light winds, and no precipitation. The first MNF matchup of the year looks to be played with ideal weather.

Weather Impact on Fantasy & Betting

A few games here with a chance for rain showers, but the most likely game to see rain is probably the TNF matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles. If we see some rain in that game, it would be a slight downgrade to the passing attack of both teams. Outside of that, we’ve got a few other games with low chances for rain, but I’m not expecting any washouts, and winds are light across the board. It looks to be like a low-impact weather week, but I’ll keep an eye on pregame radar across the NFL to pinpoint any spots that might end up under a shower.

In case things change, I’ll be posting radar GIFs to Twitter as we get closer to kickoff.
