Speaking of Fantasy Football Championships in Las Vegas, Week 1 of the FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship was a success and user DNUT13 (pictured) took down the first of 10 packages to participate for $25,000 in the FFFC finals in Vegas. For just a $10 Entry, you can also win one of the nine remaining packages to Las Vegas starting this week, and running through Week 10 on FanDuel

Alex Zelvin at FanDuel told us that the Week 1 turnout was “extremely encouraging for a number of reasons”. According to Alex, FanDuel’s “main goal isn’t to make a profit” directly through the FFFC, but it is to garner “a lot of publicity, hype, and interest from new players.” And garner new players is exactly what it has done. Week 1 turned out an impressive 538 total entries from 407 unique users. Posters in RotoGrinders Forums worried that a contest which allowed for unlimited entries may wind up being exploitable, however Week 1 generated an average of just 1.32 entries per contestant, with the maximum entries from one person being 13.

In addition to the great turnout, FFFC also received publicity from SportsIllustrated/CNN, T-Wire, and RazzBall. So Profit-or-Not, the FFFC has been a success in the eyes of FanDuel

When asked if any glitches or errors occurred during Week 1 of the FFFC, Alex told us that “Operationally, things went almost perfectly. The only glitch was really minor – some teams showed ‘null’ for their score for a few minutes early on, but even those allowed users to drill down and see individual player scores.” FanDuel anticipates the FFFC fields to “grow a bit…maybe into the 800-1,000 person range at the highest.” While a larger field-size might hurt your chances this season, it could lead to more prizes in the future. Zelvin tells us that the size of the fields from the FFFC this season “will certainly play a part in whether we’re able to up the prize pools for next season…as will the continued growth of FanDuel in the coming year.”

Eack week the FFFC pays the Top 10 Spots, with prizes ranging from $50 for 10th place to $500 for 2nd place. If you win, you will win the following package:

As far as strategy for those who are just now joining FanDuel for the FFFC, Zelvin advises that “it’s a bit different than for normal contests. The larger the contests, the more you need to swing for the fences. You want a lineup that isn’t just like everyone else’s…and it helps to have ‘feast or famine’ type players on your roster.” In DNUT13’s winning roster from Week 1, that player was Hakeem Nicks, who ‘feasted’ all over the Panthers defense for 3 passing touchdowns as just the 2nd Wide Receiver for the New York Giants.

Don’t expect these awesome promotions to end on FanDuel when the NFL season concludes. Alex guesses that FanDuel will offer some kind of large one day cash contests for the NBA and NHL seasons, but it likely won’t be as involved as the FFFC. However, Alex thinks that baseball season might have the chance to wind up in Las Vegas as well. “MLB next year might be a different story – traffic on the site could justify some sort of multi-tier event with live finals.” If it does, RotoGrinders will be right there, covering all of the action for you. Best of luck this weekend to all our members!
