Weather Report and Forecast for NFL Week 3

Texans wide receiver Collins

While it doesn’t look like a “high-impact” weather week, we do have a few games where rain is possible as we look ahead to week 3.

This NFL Weather report will highlight any extreme temperatures, precipitation, and most importantly, high winds that we could see across the NFL landscape this week. If a game isn’t specifically listed in this week’s report, that means the weather is quiet enough for it not to be an issue in that particular game.

NFL Week 3 Weather Report and Forecast

As always, it’s best to stay up to date with the very latest forecasts, so follow me on Twitter/X @KevinRothWx and keep an eye on my main weather page.

A reminder that while temperature and rain/snow can impact a game, the greatest impact by far comes from high wind, so I’ll be looking to highlight those spots when possible.

Thursday Night Football, September 18th

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills – Minimal chances for a stray sprinkle, but it’s mostly dry with light winds and mild temps. I don’t expect any issues.

Sunday Main Slate, September 21st

New York Jets @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers – A stray downpour is possible. As with most afternoon games in Florida, the rain chance is there, but it’s very difficult to pinpoint with any real confidence until closer to kickoff. Overall rain coverage looks to be about 30%.

Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars – Again, we’ll see that chance for an afternoon downpour, but in this game, we’re also adding sustained winds near 15mph, gusting between 20-25mph. Neither the chance for rain nor the wind looks like a high-impact issue, but we could see some minor impacts here, especially to longer throws and kicks.

New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks – Some light rain or drizzle is possible, but rainfall totals stay very low, and winds stay light. I don’t expect the weather will play a significant role here even if they do see some rain.

Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears – Scattered showers and storms in the general area. This game looks like the one with the highest chance to end up under a downpour this week, but even here, the overall storm coverage is 50% or less, so I wouldn’t make bets based on expected rain (and if you do, I would wait until we can see pregame radar and are more certain of the outcome).

Sunday Night Football

Kansas City Chiefs @ New York Giants – Light winds, mild temps, and minimal rain chances, I expect the weather works out just fine for SNF.

Monday Night Football, September 22nd

Detroit Lions @ Baltimore Ravens – The game is outside, but the conditions are similar to if it were being played indoors: 72 degree temperature, no rain, and winds under 5mph. Perfection.

Weather Impact on Fantasy & Betting

Mostly we’re just monitoring a handful of games for a chance for rain. We’ll want to double check the Bucs, Jags, and Bears games to see how radar looks. At the current moment, I don’t think I would place any “weather bets” or make any fantasy football adjustments based on the chances for rain. I’m also keeping an eye on winds in Jacksonville, which should stay just under the levels that I would consider to be impactful.

In case things change, I’ll be posting radar GIFs to Twitter as we get closer to kickoff.
