NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Saturday, February 17

Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

ezellmt: Auston Matthews – He’s coming off a hat trick in his last game, which he’s a threat to have again tonight. The Ducks take the most penalties in the NHL, and their penalty kill ranks in the bottom third of the league. Toronto’s power play meanwhile is fourth in the NHL at 26%+. That’s a devastating combo that could lead to multiple power-play goals for the Maple Leafs and specifically Matthews.

TastefulTides: Auston Matthews – The Maple Leafs have an implied team total of 4.15 goals. That is almost a full goal higher than any other team on the slate. Matthews leads the league in goals by 6 goals and will look to extend his lead against the Ducks, who are a bottom-ten defense at 5v5. The Ducks have also allowed the second-most goals against on the penalty kill.

Joda: Auston Matthews – The best goal scorer in the NHL takes on a team that gives far too many shots and power-play opportunities for their own good. With no other stars on the slate, you can expect Matthews to be overwhelmingly popular. I would rather not fade him, as his floor should be 5+ SOG here along with a goal.

Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
