NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Saturday, March 16

Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

Moneyball16: Zach Werenski – None of the typical expensive stud forwards have a great matchup tonight, so it makes more sense to pay up on D, and Werenski is at home versus the worst defensive team in the league. He gets big assist numbers, he shoots it, he gets blocks, and his goals should trend up. His career shooting% is 6.7% compared to 2.7% this season. His fellow players on PP1 are good plays as well.

TastefulTides: Zach Werenski – I am in complete agreement with Joda today. The Sharks are a team that we should continue to attack aggressively. The Blue Jackets are not a very talented team, but they do have some really solid talent. Zach Werenski certainly qualifies as such. He’s only scored 4 goals for the entire season, but he still averages double-digit fantasy points. He should play over 25 minutes in this game and is a serious threat to get all 3 bonuses in the best matchup on the slate.

Joda: Zach Werenski – Werenski has logged 26+ minutes in each of his last 2 games. He has 13 shots on goal along with 2 blocked shots in each game. San Jose has given up the most fantasy points to defensemen. Most of the expensive stars are in average matchups, and Werenski is at a nice price point.

Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
