NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, February 8

Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

TastefulTides: Nathan MacKinnon – It’s certainly strange putting MacKinnon in as a contrarian play on a smaller slate like this. I just don’t think many people are going to want to pay that high of a price tag for him in one of the worst possible matchups you can have in hockey. The Hurricanes have one of the best penalty kills in the NHL and are in the top third in the fewest goals allowed per/60. That being said, they have one of the worst goalie tandums in all of hockey. Ranking second to last in save percentage for the season. If MacKinnon can find some open ice he can break this slate, he is a very uncomfortable click, but he absolutely has the ceiling to break the slate.

ezellmt: Mathew Barzal – Barzal has seen absurd usage under Patrick Roy, which only the likes of Nathan MacKinnon can rival. The production has been mixed, but it will come, given the talent and opportunity. He’ll face a Lightning team on the second of a back-to-back, and his speed should create problems against potentially tired legs.

Joda: Sebastian Aho – Aho never gets owned, even in the best of matchups, so I expect little to no ownership tonight against Colorado. It’s Colorado’s third game in four nights after a weekend of All-Star break festivities for their stars. Aho has 30 points in 20 home games and has cheap linemates who are both on PP1 for nice correlation.

Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
